What's he doing? Raising a private army to overthrow the authorities!

Mr.Heston died earlier this year but I can see why he was the president of the NRA.

Talking about guns, what about this collection belonging to the late Charleton Heston.

Actually your both reading too much into his collection and not realizing his military background/history. If you knew/know anything about firearm's his collection is based upon military firearm's.

I find it very amusing when I watch a police show from the UK and watch those police officer's get beaten within a inch of their live's by a bunch of drunken thug's because they cannot carry firearm's to defend their own life's  !

Uh, I can tell that from the pics - doesn't make it any better to me, on the contrary, military war mongers disgust me!

Even if they had firearms, they'd not be able to use them without some politically correct "mumbo jumbo". In Northern Ireland, where the police do carry firearms, this has been and is certainly the case.

I agree.

We'd also have some cock-up moments as well. Charles De Menez springs to my mind.

In his case, mistakes were made by those in charge, but the ordinary officer knew no different. In many of the cases in Northern Ireland, some scumbag would be rioting, shooting and/or throwing petrol bombs at the police and army. To defend themselves and quell the trouble, the police would have to use plastic bullets and the army sometimes live rounds. On a number of occasions, some of the trouble makers were injured or killed by the police and army. Despite the fact the scum were in the wrong by causing trouble and got precisely what they deserved, it was turned into political propaganda and victimisation.

Now before this this thread takes a serious turn for the worse due to the last reply's concerning Mr.Hestons collection we must all atleast consider this point? What a person is 'into' and want's to collect as an enthusiast is their perogative, for him it was guns and for us here it would be cars, nothing more nothing less imho  .

May I end this reply with alittle insight concerning myself and firearms? I have not owned a gun since I was 8yrs old and it was for hunting deer and I currently do not own any. I'm not a 'bubba' as most Texans are percieved to be and I really am not into guns. Two week's ago at my buddy's ranch one of his family member's and a whole group of his friends showed up to shoot stuff and blowup propane tank's. My opinion of that get together was 'jeez what a bunch of rednecks' and I went back to the house and watched NASCAR.

Everyone is asking by now "So whats your point bubba" :hehe: ? My point with this whole thread is America is not the only country to arm itself against criminal's and I feel that we all should atleast have the choice to do so if we please to? I'm the least confrontational person any of you would ever meet but as they say you dont bring a knife to a gun fight.

I hope my reply shed's alittle light onto the point I was trying to make and I would rather conquer with luv than bullet's! :)

Heston was still a sick sick mofo - a totally reactionary NRA freak and a creep. His interview with Michael Moore in 'Bowling for Columbine' was very revealing...

He is 'old school' and that was his way but it does not make him a bad person just one 50yr's behind in the progress the world has made in a humanitarian aspect and his way of thinking. I have dear dear friend's that I have known for 30+yr's and just met their parent's during the past 10+yr's, talk about creepy and just downright DUMB regarding their social view's  !

I try to live by the saying "judge not and yee shall not be judged" so when I encounter people with negative and socially unacceptable view's and opinion's regarding society as it is today I click on the IGNORE button!

The NRA seems like a real problem child but its formation was totally necessary. The constitution allows citizens to bear arms, and some govt forces were trying to infringe on these rights. The constitution needed defending, and law abiding gun owners who like to feel safe or protect their kids from gangs etc in a rough neighbourhood or live on their own killed meat needed the clout of a unified group of people to lobby for their rights.
Sadly the organization has attracted all the less than savoury sorts. Lots of people own guns for the wrong reasons and view the NRA as a tool to help them commit their crimes with less resistance. Because of this the NRA's bad rep is partially justified.
