Ok, this is totally ridiculous: Bridgestone wanting to keep the tires in everybody's focus even after becoming the sole supplier, came up with the red tire rule. A driver has to use both specs during a race and the option tire would be marked with a red stripe so that the public would know what's going on. BE however, got wind that Champ cars do exactly that and he opposed the red stripe out of pride (F1 doesn't take cues from lower series). So, Bridgestone came up with the quarter-sized little white dot. First of all, you can't see that when the car is moving, no chance. The only time you MIGHT get a glimpse at that little dot is during pitstops. However, there are gazillions of people swarming around the car and the camera's view is often obstructed. The SPEED commentators had a hard time trying to see it - I'm glad they/a couple of them focused on it so that I could look at other things and wait for their verdict (if they were able to see it). Doesn't this defeat the purpose? It's also not transparent to viewers new to F1 and probably causes confusion and frustration. Either do it right or don't do it at all

Agreed, it's a stupid rule just to keep Bridgestone's name being mentioned, a regulation made purely for marketing.

No doubt about it, marketing at it's most blatant and annoying!

ok guys.

first:- the rule requiring two tryes to both be used in the race was made by the FIA, NOT bridgestone.

second:- in IRL, there are only two specs of tyre for all tracks, so manufacturing one with a red stripe is no problem, however, in F!, ther are 4 specs of tyre, and the soft for one track could be the hard for another, therefore, the number of tyres produced and scrapped would be enormous. (and at over £500 each, thats alot of waste)

bear in mind that evry tyre used (even for just one lap) is slashed, and crushed, before being used in the asphalt mix for british roads.
