Say, does anybody know if Alonso actually got that one minute's silence on the grid that he wanted?

Refused, which was pretty disgraceful.

You're kidding? If that's true, that's disgusting.

It's sick, once again shows how incompetent the FIA are, only having time for stuff involving whips and also penalties.

SPEED TV aired the moment of silence so yes respect was shown  .

You sure that wasn't footage of Friday?
Because I remember James Allen and co saying Alonso had had a rotten weekend, getting fined for cutting the line and not being allowed the minute silence before the race began.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I know there was a three minute period of silence on Friday, but I did't hear anything about the one minute on the starting grid that Alonso wanted.

There was a minute's silence on Friday, but I think it was only something organised privately amongst the drivers. Alonso wanted an official minute's silence sanctioned by the FIA, but they refused, which is absolutely reprehensible.

As per usual.. the FIA have to run at clock work...

"13.50 National Anthem..." blah blah
Ridiculous.

Atleast something was done regardless if it was not up to everyone's expectation's. Now back to the topic at hand ok which is the race, right?

no the Grand Prix as a whole is the topic McFan ans Ewan are on topic

That was the meaning I was trying to portray with my "now back on the topic at hand" comment? The GP as a whole is regarding the RACE itself and not the aformentioned moment of silence which pertained to a completely different subject. Someone should start a NEW topic regarding the plane crash and their view's regarding the moment of silence
and keep this thread on the original topic which is about the race and it's result's.

so what was everyone talking about in this thread on the friday and saturday? the race was on sunday! :hehe:

i would like to think we can all talk about the Grand Prix and if anyone has been to a Grand Prix they would know there is more to it than just the race itself. as Fernando handing out stickers of the Spanish flag, minute silence for those killed was a moment in time at the Grand Prix.

My question is still unanswered, what does the plane crash have to do with the race?

I hear what you are saying mate but this thread is about the race and not about the plane crash that is all I'm saying? So if you and the other's would like to continue please feel free to do so as I was only stating my outlook. :)

The highlights of the weekend for me were:

1. Pre-qualifying and pre-race someone (Ted Kravitz - I think) asking Bernie what this track brings. He struggled to answer for a few seconds and then came out with; "well just take a look for yourself". Good save, Bernie.

2. On the grid walk Martin Brundle went into a little phase of "um, er, erm". The reason was because he was checking out the pit babes.
