Does anyone else wonder why (in the middle of an engine freeze) the Ferrari engine has so obviously been developed for POWER?
It has definitely become more unreliable, blowing up twice in two races.
Cars using the engine (even the Toro Rosso) are faster.

Only three teams use the Ferrari engine and I don't feel any of them have benefitted from any kind of development in the engine area. Force India have gained some speed through aero development and some through the introduction of their new gearbox. Toro Rosso have been fast all season, but have encountered numerous issues that have made them look much slower. Vettel has really been on it since the new chassis arrived. The RB4 has been quite fast all season, aside from the past couple of races. Mark Webber has shown that. Combined with an engine superior to the Renault and a really fast driver in Vettel, it is no wonder that Toro Rosso have been much closer to Red Bull in recent races.

And finally, as seen last year, Ferrari are able to develop their car enough to keep it on McLaren's pace and, in races that suit their car, beat them outright.

The manufacturers have been able to develop their engines thanks to loopholes in the regulations that they have discovered. I believe this has involved certain wear-and-tear components that need replacing often being developed and then they tell the FIA they're going to replace such and such a component as it has worn. Renault though don't appear to have noticed these loopholes.

Today at Valencia the five fastest on the speed trap ran Ferrari engines so they are fast alright. Saw an interview with Heikki today where he said that a lot of the development was on oil and other lubricants. I don't think that there are any team that violates the engine freeze but it seems that there are still a lot of parts that can be improved with great results.

That's basically correct. I don't think that anybody is cheating, but the rules specify areas associated the engine which can be altered without consulting the authorities and other parts which can be tweaked provided you prove to the FIA that the changes are for reliability reasons or something. As a result, Mercedes and Ferrari have been able to get a fair bit more power from their engines. Renault, however, have nobody to blame but themselves for their engine's poor performance. They should have read the rules much better that tell you can actually make changes and should have read them again more carefully to find the loopholes. :wavey:

Aye, well Renault have mainly ignore the loop holes in the name of cutting costs.
But you have to take your hat off to the likes of Ferrari and Mclaren.
Simple things like cleaning out the engines give so much more power.
Even the ever improving types of fuel has had a big effect... something Elf has also failed to do for Renault... or Castrol at Red Bull.
Bravo Shell and Mobil 1. Smart thinking by Mercedes and Ferrari.

5 highest top speeds to Ferrari engined cars.
2 races in a row Massa has won the drag race from the start.
2 races in a row they've had BIG failures.
Why would you think they'd done anything to their engine

This should read

Ferraris Engine Seize!

In an era of substantial engine reliability across the grid Ferrari loses two in two races! What good is that performance if they can't even finish the races? Not that I'm complaining but in case no ones noticed the Red-squad's lead in the constructors championship is going up in smoke just like their engines :wavey:

Although this engine blowing thing is becoming to be a serious concern, (Yes I was like in panic mode for the last 10 laps of Valenica as if it happened to Massa again I would of cryed!), I forsee Ferrari getting on top of this real fast. McLaren may of closed in on the constructors title, but Ferrari will recover and increase it again and win as they rightfully should. Also what comes around goes around. Ferrari had 2 engine blow ups thus 2 DNFs. McLaren will get their turn soon enough. Weather it is because of an engine or something else. Massa cleaarly deserves to be 2008 world champion more than Kimi Raikkonen and more than Lewis Hamilton. He is now the better driver in the better car and the most determined to be champion. He has the backing of a great team and car, the backing of Michael Schumacher and dare I say it, the backing of the FIA.

Ferrari's reliability has never really been the same since Schumacher retired.

It was crap as well in 2006 (Michael Schumacher's last season). Afterall the fact his engine blew in Japan, cost him and Ferrari both the Drivers and Constructors Titles.

And then there was the problem he had in Q3 at Interlagos that forced him to start 10th.

Its ironic the changes they have made to their engine are under the guise of reliability :hehe:
Hehe, I was thinking the same thing, but maybe some other changes they made more recently (the ones that you are allowed to make) caused this.

Either way, they have to do something about this and fast. This one was not so much hurtful to them as the one that happened last time, because Kimi was sixth if I remember, but still they can't lose points like that.
