He landed a dingy...on a beach...and people are upset? Where the hell do they think dingies land? To assume that people with children have more rights to a public beach than people with boats is rediculous. He should have pushed back off and run up and down the surf at full speed. Sorry mommies, boats have been on the seas for centuries...the beach was not created so that spoiled children have a place to play.

From someone who lives and boats in a beach community (not in the mountains ) I'll tell you that you moor your dinghy to a dock not on the beach. Should you find yourself without a dock , the areas designated for watercraft are usually clearly marked with buoys and are almost exclusively kept free of swimmers for obvious reasons.

Personally I find it rather sporting of the Italians to treat him so kindly by only pelting him with sand and water (not exactly deadly weapons) If he'd tried that here in America, the results would have likely been a bit more tragic for him.

Perhaps in the peoples republic of communist california that is true, but in Florida where I grew up and lived until a few years ago I sailed, boated, jet ski'd and surfed in the ocean weekly. We typically beached dingy's, jet ski's or whatever we wanted whenever needed, desired or convenient. Jet skis run in the surf nearly everywhere, boats anchor off shore and come in on dingys without any danger to anyone or protest from self indulged soccor moms. I can tell you in Santa Barbara that happens as well since one did so right beside me when I was there on vacation (as I recall it was right in front of Fess Parkers - perhaps I should have kicked his head in for daring to land a boat...on a beach). To get your panties in a wad over a 3 foot wide dingy landing on a beach is utterly rediculous. Do you go racing through a swimming group of people? No, you show typical maritime courtesy and all will be well. Some limp wristed Cali-whiner throwing sand or anything else on me while I landed would find himself in the hospital. I think Flav showed remarkable restraint for not smacking some self important, think they own the ocean, types around.

but you see you point out "perhaps in Cali" that is the case did it occur to you that the beach where Flav landed that is not the local etiquette like it is in Florida

Everywhere in the world there are beaches where boats of any kind are not allowed. Swimming only beaches and that is perfectly fine....provided it is on the charts, posted and bouyed off. No fly zones are common in aircraft and the same goes for maritime charts. Boats, planes, cars...there are always areas you can't go into..this is nothing new. But, I have not read anything saying that any of that was true in this case. Did I miss it? If he disregarded a legal zone, then we would typically be reading about his ticket and court date....not soccor moms throwing sand. If he did disregard such a zone, then he is firmly in the wrong...but I have not seen any reports of that being the case. I will stand corrected if someone points it out though. Until then, soccor moms be damned.

Nope, not much. A group throwing sand etc at me would pretty much be enough to set this US Marine off. People talking or even yelling is grounds for smiling back at them, but someone throwing something at me...that I would not abide. I assume there would be a point at which you would eventually attempt to stop someone doing something similar to you. Perhaps if they were throwing feces?

My line in the sand is just drawn somewhat further away than yours is. What would this world be like if everyone just smiled when they were assaulted by people throwing things just because they were not happy.....

Not likely since Stearns Wharf is adjacent and the boat launch is on West (not East) beach about 1/2 mile up-coast.
Should it have happend, then yes, you should have let him know he was in the wrong, I certainly would have.

Fact is we dont know the full story here. I once 'had a go' at some flash moron that was driving a jet ski very fast and very close to the shoreline. There were children (not mine) playing and adults swimming there, and he was weaving between them. He came in so close to the shore (trying to avoid swimmers) that he hit the bottom and this threw him off. I had strong words with him and he did then go out deep. Later he returned too the beach, quite slowly, and loaded his jet ski onto its trailer. I had no problem at all with that, in fact, before he left he came and apologised for his realier behavior - that was nice.

Do we actually know how big the dinghy was, and in which manner Flav drove it towards the beach. Given that there were terrified children, it doesn't sound like it was a small dinghy carefully putt-putting towards the shore.
