I just looked at the medal tally. How can Britain now have more gold medals than Italy. Not good, but I am sure Italy can get back in front. Generally speaking Italy has usually finished higher than Britain in around 6th or 7th overall. In football was a bit of a crap result. Belgium coming back from losing 2-1 to winning 3-2 against Italy. That given Belgium are crap is unbelievable! Italy are the Toulon 2008 champions (that is basically an under 23 World Cup held each year in France) and then lose to Belgium. Beats me! Argentina are currently playing and I am watching as I type this. Score currently sits at 1-1 against The Netherlands. I hope Argentina wins then. I will be going for them for the rest of the Mens Olympic Football Tournament.

if you go on population:medals uk is doing pretty well :wavey:

The UK and Italy have raughly the same population. If you really want to go by population then Australia is number 1. Bud you would love that. It is a true statement however.

How cares about Britain having another mediocre day, despite hundreds of millions of pounds of tax payers' money being given to them. This is all that matters to me today:

Roger Federer gets his gold medal

BEIJING -- Roger Federer gets his gold medal at the Olympics

Federer teamed with fellow Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka to take the men's doubles gold Saturday night, beating a Swedish team of Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3.

Federer was the best player on the court, but Wawrinka held up well against a Swedish team that had gotten into the match with a 19-17 third-set endurance test over a French team Friday.

The bronze went to the top-ranked team in the world, Bob and Mike Bryan from the United States and Camarillo. They beat Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Fittingly, the gold-medal match was on Federer's racket. He served at 5-3 of the fourth set, 2 hours 59 minutes into the final. He got it to 40-15, hit a wide serve to Johansson and watched the return float wide. Then he jumped in the air three times like a 10-year-old.

At the medals ceremony, when they played the Swiss national anthem and Federer and Wawrinka stood on the highest platform, both were clearly on the edge of tears.

No i didn't mean it like that. Australia is in the top 10 and will probably finish at around 7th or 6th or maybe higher. Australia has only 20 million people thus 20 million to choose from for atheletes etc. China has over a billion and is first and USA has around 300 million and is second. If you go by how many people the country has relative to how many medals they have won, you'll find Australia is probably number 1. Italy and GB have almost 60 million to choose from and are positioned similar to Australia in the medal tally. If you do the same thing with them when comparing to Australia, you'll find again that Australia is clearly on top.

GB are 3rd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's Aussie land? Behind us! Not gonna last for too long though :(

That is outragious. GB has never did anything. Australia, Italy and Germany have always finished higher. I suspect GB wont stay there for long however. I believe after the gymnastics start that Russia will move straight up. The Germans will probably get back ahead but I am still dumbfounded on how GB has gotten ahead of now both Italy and Australia. By the way this is nothing personal against GB, I just didn't see them doing all this well. I guess they have improved.

Plus, if there was no Michael Phelps for the US we would be a lot closer. Maybe with the chance for 2nd if we had taken a 3 or 4 more golds before.
