From F1 Live:

Mexico is hoping to be added to an expanded Formula One calendar in 2010.

Mexican racing official Jose Abed, an FIA Vice-President, believes F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone has been given a green-light to add two new races to the 2010 schedule.

"Those changes will be made by 2010 and, if it happens, (Mexico will) have to work hard to have a proper track. Even so, we must wait for Bernie Ecclestone's decision to include Mexico," he is quoted as saying by Sportsya.

Abed, who was involved in the Mexican Grand Prix held at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez between 1986 and 1992, said Puebla, Cancun and Tijuana are interested in becoming the country's new GP host.

He also said that governments at both the federal and state levels are willing to back the race.

"We are able to do it, because the authorities are willing to make the relevant investments and everyone has a chance. We just have to afford it since a Formula One track is worth more than $50 million," said Abed.

I was pretty interested in this - until I read that it seems the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez may not be holding the Grand Prix. For me, it's either using the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez or having no Grand Prix there; I'm not interested in another boring track designed by Tilke. Sadly, Ecclestone doesn't care about the entertainment value.

I agree McLaren Fan and think alot of F1 history will be lost if it's not at that track and it should be put back as it was with the great 'peraltada curve'. Now with that being said a second nod could be given to the Monterey track?

52 GP calendar coming your way.

That would be great as we would not have these LONG 3 week or even 2 week delay's between races!

I would love to see Hermanos Rodriguez back on the calendar, the Peraltada is perhaps my favourite corner EVER, even though it's lost some of its charm over the years being flattened and that stupid baseball ground on the inside of the corner. I'll never forget when Mansell passed Berger around the outside of that corner back in 1990 and Murray Walker went beserk. :)

I like that track, Champ Car used to race there and they should use that perfectly good track instead of spending a crapload on a boring Tilke track.

There should never be more than 20 GPs in a season as an absolute maximum, otherwise each individual race starts to lose it's value and excitement. I'd be very happy to see a Mexican GP, but as a replacement for one of the current modern and boring racetracks, not just as an addition. I think it's a travesty that Bernie is getting rid of Silverstone, one of the best and most historic tracks in the calendar (if normal people going to the race don't complain about the facilities then why should he?) and keeping characterless races such as Bahrain and Shanghai.

I fully agree, but to answer your question in parentheses:

another Tilke track would be a drag as they are all so predictable but I want more grand prix's around the world otherwise we will end up with the F1 middle eastern/Asian Championship instead of World championship. So in the interest of the greater good I hope Mexico get a grand prix

WTF  !! Explain to us all how having more than 20 GP's will 'lose it's value and excitement' to us F1 fan's ????

Here's an easy solution, if Valencia is a hit, ditch Catalunya-wn and go to Hermanos instead.

But it's just a shame Bernie doesn't see F1 the way we do.

That would be great, but Catalunya - hated by fans and drivers alike - recently got a nice big contract extension.:yawn:

The Mexian GP. Remember the 1990 one? I never saw it live as I was too young but I have it on a tape and I loved watching it again and again. This was because Alain Prost (Ferrari) won the race after he qualified 9th. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) was leading almost the whole race and then got a small puncture. Prost had already passed everyone up until second place and then claimed first place by passing Senna. And then Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) also passed Senna and made it a Ferrari 1 and 2. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice memories of Mexico.
