This petition relates to racetracks/airfields, where residents move into the area fully aware such an activity takes place in the vicinity, only to complain, forcing such facilities to reduce noise as well as the number of days they're able to operate. This petition asks for commonsense to be used - after all, if I went and bought a house at the end of a runway, I would expect to be bothered by planes - not complain to the local authority and have the airport shut-down!

Details of the petition:

There are increasing cases of new residents moving into a location, then to complain and campaign against activities that have taken place for many years, especially when such noise would or should have been obvious before choosing to live in the locality.

Effectively, I am proposing “Grandfather rights” to well established activities and a presumption of rights to continue. This would typically include moving near to a church, only then to complain about the bells, a playground only then to complain about children screaming or shouting, near a village airfield, then campaigning for its closure, a riding school, objecting to the horses, the noise of sports fans at a local pitch and other such long standing amenities or activities.

In addition to the benefits for those who have long enjoyed the facility, such a policy will ensure clarity for those making choices on places to live.

Please support this petition to protect long established activities with the presumption, that, providing there is no significant increase, such activities may continue; thereby protecting the traditions and facilities that make the UK such a great place to be.

I have signed up. I live near an airfield which has light aircraft and a go kart track, and used to have moto cross and drag racing, for many years (at least back to the 1950s). About 15 years ago a housing estate was built near the edge of the airfield. The residents complained about the noise with the result that drag racing and moto cross were banned and Go karts restricted to Saturdays only once or twice a month.
I had a long argument with a petition collector on this. Fortunately, my view was valid as I also lived in easy earshot of the airfield.
When I signed up there was over 1,500 signatures so it is well on its way. If you live outside UK why ask any friends or reli's who do live here to vote for you?

It would be ok with me if someone could add my name to the position.

I'll do it Tex, send me you name by P.M.. There was a time when you could only send 1 signature per email address. This created a petition in its own right in that people living at the same address could only submit 1 signature. I dont know what the outcome of that was but I'll try. If it wont work I'll use a business email which will be fine.

PM sent and thank's I appreciate it.

You're in Gregg. It was as I thought though, you can still only register 1 signature per email address, so I used my business one.

I've signed the petition. It's really annoying when these people are pre-warned about things like this when they're moving to the area and then complain about it, and you can't even say "don't say we didn't warn you" or "told you so" these days.

Formula One is in the midst of its summer testing ban, but the Renault team has nonetheless turned out for development action.

Even during the August break, teams are still allowed to conduct short shakedowns and aerodynamic tests not exceeding 50kms.

According to the local Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard newspaper, Renault - believed to be working on a new braking system - has been in action at Kemble Airport, which is located about an hour's drive from the French team's Enstone base.

Two of the team's F1 cars were in action on the runway, but the identity of the drivers is not known.

McLaren and Force India also tested at Kemble last week, sparking six complaints about the noise from local residents.

"I have written to the airfield letting them know how many complaints we got this week and last week," said environmental health officer Ray Brassington.

If the complainants live that near to the airport I'll bet that they could sell tickets - that would stop them moaning. Anyway, how long can it go on for? They dont test at night, and, since testing is limited, they cant be doing it all day. I bet that these buggers still get their lawn mowers out on Sunday.
