I'M AS GOOD AS SCHU

Bah, so what, a lot of people are as good as Schu.

I know he's arrogant and I know he's made a lot of big headed statements but that's not the issue, it looks like the title of that article and therefore this thread has been twisted out of something else he said so unless you can show the actual quote of Hamilton saying that he's as good as Schumi the title of this thread is unfounded. If you can show me the quote then I'll accept your position although I personally don't care too much if someone at the top level of their sport is arrogant or big headed.

Yeh I know what your getting at but my beef with hammy is his overall attitude.

I on the other hand cannot stand arrogance on the Hammy scale, no matter how good he is.

Trust me mate. It has nothing to do with it.

I liked Schumi but I did not adore him.
Totally different though. I defy you to show me where he has come close to Hammyeque quotes both in quality & quantity.
Also we are talking about a 7 times champ & a ................ well a .............. good driver with massive potential.

so you have no issue with arrogance if they have the CV to back it up as in Schumacher?

mate i think you need to get a new hobby. who really cares what persona drivers have!?

do you have issues with what music they listen to or what political views they have as well?

Hm, for me who supports drivers rather than teams (and even for the teams I 'choose' to like more than others) personality plays a major role. I don't just like performance or else I'd be a Senna or McLaren fan. While I appreciate great performances, other factors play a role as well whether or not I 'like' somebody.

Bud, if you read my comment you will see that the CV part was only a side issue, an ALSO. Not the WHY.

I am a team man and as long as they have good drivers I could not give a sh!t if they had Howdy Doody as there No 1.

The only driver I have ever followed religiously was Gilles & I think I would have the same feeling if Rossi came to F1.
All the others I have had varying stages of respect.
If Hammy drove for Ferrari I would not mind BUT I would still call him a w***er and a big ZERO on the respect scale . (Believe me mate)

Nah he wasn't saying that he was saying he can contribute to the team like Michael could. Which is bollocks but not as much bollocks as the journo made out.

But having said that, what is he getting at with the rubbish about MS still being around Ferrari meaning its a tribute to how great McLaren are or whatever?? I don't understand what he means there; even if I've misread his point I don't know what possible reason Lewis could have anything to say about Michael consulting for Ferrari. Nothing to do with Lewis or McLaren. And this in particular was a stupid thing to say:

“I think Michael’s presence at Ferrari is a compliment to us,” said Hamilton. “We are not doing that and we are still winning races."

Eh? "We're not doing" what, exactly? Um, yeah, McLaren aren't having Michael Schumacher consult for them. Or the other 7 time world champion. Lewis thinks that's a compliment to McLaren, does he? Or the royal "we"?

Perhaps he means Hakkinen. Well, McLaren tried giving Mika another go at Barca a while back and it became apparent pretty quickly that he'd lost it. Unlike Schumacher, who jumped in after retirement and was immediately fastest - a piece of driving as impressive as some of the best in his championship career.

I've respect for Lewis and generally like his character, but that comment was stupid.

better than schui???? obviously not in hungary, i watched my 1998 season full race dvds and popped in hungary, schumacher dominated there and decimated all odds he didnt have pole and he didnt have the best car and he danced that oversteering red monster over every split and rumble strip to take down pole man hakkinen.

dont speak too soon young fella these drivers of the past have had mistakes and theyve learnt from them and couldnt be stronger as a result, give yourself 5 more years till you can compare yourself to past heroes.

i dare you to say your better than gilles or ayrton, and i swear you will not learn from a worse mistake in your entire career. you will be held down from the title until you lose interest....or your edge

Hakkinen was out of Formula 1 for six years. What did you expect given that the sport develops so fast and that he completely changed his driving style to suit DTM cars!

“I think Michael’s presence at Ferrari is a compliment to us,” said Hamilton. “We are not doing that and we are still winning races."

It is a compliment to McLaren, or himself, or both, but Hamilton's actually complimenting Schumacher as well, saying that Schumacher motivates him etc. Further, what did Schumacher do at Ferrari? He worked incredibly hard to keep himself in top condition and did a lot of testing of his cars to get the maximum from them. Hamilton believes he can do that as well: Hamilton does keep extremely fit and does a lot of work for McLaren and himself in and out of the cockpit.

“I think Michael’s presence at Ferrari is a compliment to us,” said Hamilton. “We are not doing that and we are still winning races.
“When we go to a test, it is cool to be on the track the same day as him. For me, it is even more of a challenge.
“Michael is someone I have been watching for years, but I can do just as good a job as him and my task is to contribute as much as he does.

I agree. It is far, far, far too early for Hamilton himself and anybody else for that matter to compare him to legends such as Senna.

Yeah, such as 'flying' over a stage in a weird costume (not really for McLaren, but still...) :P:yes:
