David Coulthard is expecting the FIA to launch a probe into the "structural integrity" of Toyota's current Formula One single seater.

The Scottish veteran, who drives for rivals Red Bull Racing, said that incidents involving the Cologne-designed TF108 can be compared with earlier this season, when the governing body looked into the integrity of the Adrian Newey-penned RB4 car.

Off the back of several incidents involving crumbling suspension pieces at both Sepang and Melbourne earlier this season, FIA stewards ordered Red Bull to explain in a detailed technical report how its car is safe enough to race.

In a section of his latest website column for the British broadcaster ITV entitled 'Double standard?,' Coulthard pointed out that Toyota has now also had a run of apparent chassis problems.

Toyota confirmed last week that Timo Glock's heavy crash at Hockenheim had been tracked to the right-rear trackrod, while at Silverstone Jarno Trulli ended in the tyre barrier following a rear wing failure.

But Coulthard said: "I didn't hear of any investigation into the structural integrity of the Toyota -- but presumably that will happen because when we had a suspension breakage in Malaysia we came under the spotlight of the FIA in a way that was publicly uncomfortable for the team."

For once Coulthard is right, I reckon there's something not quite right with that Toyota and I reckon it's something to do with the pace it's found over the winter.

Looks more like he's pointing out the inconsistencies in FIA behaviour than wanting an investigation into the toyota IMO but still a valid point of concern.

Whilst I think the Toyota is a potential concern, the TF108 has taken several big shunts and not shattered into a million shards of carbon fibre like the RB4 did. Still a necessary investigation, but I think the comparison he's making is a little much...

I'm not sure this warrants an investigation. Two failures of two separate components over 10 races? If it were two failures of the same component in only a couple of races I'd say sure but not yet.

it even states in the article that Redbull had two suspension faliures where as Toyota had one suspension failure and one rear wing failure.
Coulthard is very passionate about safety and is getting more and more vocal in the twilight years of his carrer but i wonder if he is starting to go a bit far, its like he wants to be seen as the Jackie stewart of his era but hasnt got the huge gaps in saftey that jackie had to campain against.

I think that the fia should do something about it because Coulthard is one of thre most experienced drivers and he cares about all the drivers.
