Here's post from a forum I was looking at earlier, too:

J.J. Lehto says that Renault also has a similar system and that Alonso doesn't like it too much and doesn't even use it. Also, he says that it takes a lot of training to get it right, and it probably brings a tenth per lap max. Drivers have to operate two paddles with both hands, which requires a lot of coordination skills. Then, he says that McLaren has overall got their car working really well with aerodynamics etc.

Basically he downplays the significance of that wheel. Also, he says that it depends on the engine supplier if the teams are gonna implement a similar system.

Here's an image of the Ferrari steering wheel, with a knob which adjusts the torque settings:


It's interesting how they have three knobs to adjust something at the three different stages of a corner. Is that mapping or is there something else there?
