1's governing body is to inspect the Mercedes-Benz engine that powered Lewis Hamilton to victory at last Sunday's German Grand Prix.

The inspection, although the first of its kind this season, is apparently both random and routine, in accordance with the current two-race per engine regulation, and the so-called 'freeze' on free engine development.

The inspection will take place during scrutineering prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix next week, the Spanish newspaper Diario AS revealed.

The FIA informed Hamilton's team, McLaren-Mercedes, of the pending inspection in the form of an official communique on Tuesday, the newspaper added.

How random they choose a McLaren

Hamilton's McLaren as well... Has there actually been any of these inspections before? This is the first I've heard of them anyway. It will be interesting to see what is said and whether or not any other prominent teams will have their engines inspected as well.

says this is the first of its kind! while technically there is nothing wrong with inspecting an engine by the scrutineers its just funny how its Hamilton and its McLaren that "randomly" is chosen!

im not worried that anything will happen as they pass scrutineering anyway but its the principle that again it seems the FIA is targeting McLaren. but then I am just a fanboy who is falsely seeing things as everything and everyone in the FIA against McLaren right

I thought so, for I don't remember them last season either. I find the timing rather convenient as well. McLaren seem to have overtaken Ferrari on the development front, so we've a s*** storm brewing about McLaren's steering wheel, which has been used all season long, and now this. It's more than half way through the season, so you would have thought that some inspections would have taken place before now.

the inspection is to do with engine modification, and wouldnt it be logical to test the engine of the winner of the last two grandprixs??
And any way who cares if they pick on Mclaren as long as mercedes are doing everything buy the book there is nothing to be worried about.

The inspection is meant to be completely random, and, like I say, it's very late in the day to be inspecting engines now. This wasn't done last season, nor has been done up until now this season. I'm confident that McLaren-Mercedes have done nothing wrong, it's just that the timing etc. is a little suspicious. Further, I looked up both the sporting and technical regulations and there is no mention of these inspections, other than what is normally done in parc fermé. We have nothing but the FIA's word that these inspections are to carried out at random.

No they werent carried out last season as the engine freeze only came into effect this year, and that is what they are inspecting for any modifications to the engine from the start of the season.
So its not really to late in the day as they are comparing the engine that is being run now to the one that was being run at the start of the season, we will probably see more inspections in the latter half of the season.
It probably isnt random but hey lets face it given lewis's race pace recently they cant help but check to make sure the engine hasnt been developed during the season. Really when you think about it its a bit of a complament- Lewis is just to quick for them to belive

 plus McLaren didn't only take a little step forward of late they have leaped forward.
This is either down to Ferrari & BMW loosing the plot or McLaren getting it right.

So I think it is only natural it draws attention & they are the most likely to be tested.
This is the case in most other sports, just ask Ben Johnson.
But as usual in this case it's a conspiracy because it involves McLaren

Do you realise what you are saying? You say that McLaren have made a big improvement in their car and are the most likely to be inspected, but the inspections are meant to be at random! That would mean there is again a hidden agenda against McLaren.

I know what I am saying and you do to. But you just love taking issue to anyone that have a point of view that does not conform to yours.

You're just a wind-up merchant. You said the FIA were targeting McLaren; I'm just suspicious of them doing so.

Take this quick quiz:

Three people in a room - One holding a knife, one a gun & one a spoon.

Someone is found dead by bullet wound to the head.

Which will police first interview ?

Is he a target ? Don't think so it's just the usual course of events in the real world.

But lambs don't live in the real world do they MF
