no doubting Anthony is fully involved with his Son possibly living his dreams through Lewis but its also possible that the image people have is the image the media portays. If they filmed Alonso's and Felipe's dad all the time and made a big deal about them maybe then people would think the same way.

Well, that's the thing, bud, they aren't filmed all the time and they don't talk to the press because they try to remain in the background.

On Britsih TV. Ive not watched Spanish (though I will be watching the next GP from spain) or Brazillian coverage. I imagine the attention focaus will be somewhat different there. Not sure that either Felippe or Alonso's father is also a manager, so that makes it a little different too.

:hehe: I love the way they pronounce Jenson Button on the Spanish coverage of F1, German coverage is boring. Its the simple things that amuse me =/ ....

Little things amuse me too so i shall listen out for jenson Button being mentioned. (Doubt I'll understand much other than names as i dont speak Spanish :( )

McLaren never give access to the radio - unless they have won the race.
Never during.

And?

Erm.. Dunno.
I just looked at that and thought "why did I post that?"
Its true though isnt it?

I didn't mean to song aggressive, I just thought your post was a little odd, as you say.

What you say is true, however. It's probably the right thing to do for the top teams (or even other teams that are involved in a close battle of their own (like Red Bull and Toyota, for example), for they are so closely matched and wouldn't want to give any information away, however minor it may be.

To be fair though all teams monitor radio traffic, so they all know what the pits are saying to the drivers, It's just us who never really finds out whats said

Well, they try to anyway. I thought it was rather funny when Ferrari (Todt (I think) and Raikkonen) complained last year that McLaren were monitoring Ferrari's radio communications when Raikkonen was at McLaren, when Mika Salo said that Ferrari were monitoring McLaren's transmissions when he was at the team. :hehe:

Can't think of a previous F1 driver who constantly had a parent in the garage.

Isnt Felipe's dad at most GP's?

Alonso's father is also at the majority of Grands Prix. I think what TF really means is that he has never seen a driver whose father has been so involved in their son's career. Where as Massa and Alonso Senior rarely ever seen and let their son go about his business, Anthony Hamilton hangs on like a limpet.

Yeah, thanks MF, that's pretty much it - e.g. talking to him while he's in the cockpit on the grid! That should be engineer-only territory (or at least team members only). Yeah you see Filipe's dad on tele, wives and other family members of drivers hanging about - even Kimi's grandmother at Brazil last year! - but they're just garrage VIPs and the like, not intimately involved in the preparation.

Actually, isn't Lewis' Dad actually his manager? Thought I heard that. Apart from the psychological territory, its just a bad mix of responsibilities. you need someone who can give you an independent, frank, disinterested view on things. I'm a professional and one of the things they drill into us is never have a family member as a client - it makes for poor decision making and conflicts of interest.
