McLaren deny Rosberg rumours
No contact with the Williams racer...

Martin Whitmarsh on Thursday dismissed speculation McLaren may be looking to hire German driver Nico Rosberg for the 2009 season.

Famous driver manager Willi Weber, whose new charge Nico Hulkenberg currently tests for Williams on occasion, suggested this week that Nico Rosberg might move on to McLaren at the end of the season.

Whitmarsh, McLaren's Chief Executive, responded at Hockenheim that the team has not contacted the German racer.

"We can confirm we have not had any contact with Nico Rosberg, or with his management, about him driving for us in 2009," he stated.

Kovalainen plays down Weber comments
Rosberg unwilling to be drawn into the rumours
17/07/08 18:34

Heikki Kovalainen on Thursday played down reports that his McLaren tenure could end at the conclusion of the 2008 season. This year is only the 26-year-old's first season with the Mercedes-powered team.

But speculation this week, spurred on by comments made by Williams test driver Nico Hulkenberg's manager Willi Weber, suggested he may be part of a seat reshuffle for 2009, involving Nico Rosberg moving up to McLaren.

Weber suggested Kovalainen would in 2009 return to Renault, with whom he made his Grand prix debut last year.

"Willi Weber has nothing to do with my management," Kovalainen made clear on Thursday, on the eve of the German Grand Prix.

"I don't think he knows anything about my contract situation.
All I can say is I am happy with my situation and would like to remain (at McLaren) for a long time," he added.

Rosberg meanwhile opted to keep the speculation down to a mere simmer in the FIA Thursday press conference.

"I’m sorry, I don’t want to comment on things like that at all," the Williams driver said when asked about the McLaren rumour.

Rosberg: I'm staying at Williams

By Simon Strang and Jonathan Noble Saturday, July 19th 2008, 17:31 GMT

Nico Rosberg insists he is '100 percent' committed to staying at Williams next year - despite speculation this week that he could be a free agent for 2009.

Michael Schumacher's manager Willi Weber, who also looks after Williams test driver Niko Hulkenberg, suggested to the German media that Rosberg could walk away from his current team due to a performance-related clause in his contract.

But Rosberg and his team boss Frank Williams have rubbished those claims - and both say that there is no doubt that their partnership will continue in 2009.

When asked by autosport.com if he could talk about his plans for next year, Rosberg said: "Yes I can. I am at Williams. I am committed to it 100%."

Williams added: "We have a two-year contract and there are no conditions. It's two years, this is the first year and we are halfway through. That's all you need to know from me."

Rosberg did admit, however, that there was an element of frustration he was not making the kind of impact on Formula One that other relative newcomers like Robert Kubica and Lewis Hamilton were.

"Of course I have the feeling that I really want to slowly but surely get going," he said. "I really want to get some strong results because my whole F1 career I haven't had the chance to fight for podiums, or a very few number of times maybe. So I have that feeling, but on the other hand this is F1 and I have to be patient.

"Some people are lucky and make the best of it, and they come in to the right place at the right time, like Lewis for example. And he fully deserves it obviously. Some people it takes a bit longer, like Mika Hakkinen, like me. That's just a reality."

A slight change in tune. :hehe:

The commentators on SPEED said he is probably saying this so he can get Hulkengurg in that Williams seat, which is probably true.

Yep, Weber's pulling every PR stunt to try and get Hulkenberg into an F1 seat. He's probably got better chance waiting for a Belgian driver to spray CS gas in a London cabby's face and get sent to jail for it. Problem is that there are no Belgian F1 drivers right now.

Rumour over.

You never know Lewis could pull the douchebag move of the century and go to Ferrari- allowing Rosberg in.Its a long shot but hey i dont think the Hamilton Clan have much respect for the Mclaren management anymore

I don't think Rosberg/Kov. is a strong enough driver pairing for McLaren. I could imagine them going for Button, and think they would do before going for Rosberg if the No. 1. slot was available.
