Examples both fatal and survived:
Senna(and Ratzenburger and Wendlinger too now that I am reminded), Greg Moore, Dale Earnhardt(no matter how tame it looked), Zanardi, Jason Priestly, countless Indy 500 fatalities(or even survived incidents), several F1 incidents come to mind, even Shumi's crash could be considered worse than your Busst incident if there wera a camera inside the tub showing the legs getting crushed. Same goes for Panis' incident in Canada, or the way Elio DeAngelis died, or Piquet's Indy mishap, or Nannini's helicopter accident(OK that wasn't during a sporting event), or Berger breaking his neck at tamburello. I could do this all day. One that stands out in my memory happened in 1978, what GP it was I cannot remember, maybe Monza. I was too young but 2 years ago I found the vid on the intarweb: Tom Price hit a marshal who was crossing the track, tearing his body apart and sending the parts spinning and flying all over the place and landing in goopy piles. Meanwhile, the marshal's fire extinguisher hit Tom's head, killing him instantly. The car continued down the road until it came to a turn and went straight off and coming to rest.
Now that I think about it, most if not all motor racing unjuries are more gory than that Busst pic, we just don't get to see the actual injury.
