With one team on the grid sticking with tobaco sponsorship (thanks Ferrari) and companys like Mcdonalds saying they wont sponsor F1 while tobaco money exists is gripping onto the old money streams good for F1?

Im amazed that we havent seen a Coca-Cola Ferrari (they might actually rediscover Ferrari red for the first time in over a decade) or a Xbox Toyota.
Will theses sponsors ever enter F1 or is the sport only interesting to Finacial institutions like Santander and IGN who may have the money but my god they make boring adverts

I can remember, many years ago, that a team was sponsored by Durex (a condom brand, for those of you in other countries), but I cant remember which team - anyone know?
Sponsorship is an issue that Bernie has to get to grips with. As I have stated in a different thread, we need at least 2 new teams, probably teams already racing in another format but, as Kiwi says, is amazing that more worldwide brands, like Red Bull, are not involved. Sponsors are the essential missing link in the reasons for there being 4 empty slots on the grid, and maybe, more in the next couple of years.

There was a time when you used to confuse McLarens with Alfa Romeos as they had a very similar Marlboro livery and the only way you could tell them apart was by the car numbers.

Yeah I miss tobacco advertising too, the Williams always looked so good in that classy Rothmans blue and white livery. It gave the cars a sort of "elegant" feeling at the same time.

Hmm, I'd only like Benson and Hedges to come back into F1 if Jordan Grand Prix came with them :P

But yeah, tobacco advertising made the liveries so much more interesting than they are now. I think the most interesting livery at the moment is the Red Bull Racing one. :)

It's not just in F1, but other Motorsport too. The Silk Cut Jaguars, Castrol Jaguars, Rothmans Porsche. All classy looking cars thanks to the their Tobacco advertising.

Id love to know if there is a s\tudy linking motorsport tobacco advertising and people starting smoking, or if it had more impact with smokers switching brands.
The cars did look a whole lot better with one major sponsor rather than the 5 or 6 they run now. but you would think that a company like mcdondalds would love to step in and conver a car with their logos (imaginethe advertising - Kimi driving through a drive through in a Ferrari, maybe they would install one in Maranello)

I was bored so here is my Mcdonalds Ferrari (dont expect miracles i aint great at photshop)

Even if there was a good study into it and a convincing report was made up, Mad Max would probably only laugh and rip it up as soon as he opens the cover... and then use the paper to make a whip...

Let me comment as a smoker ok? I do not believe that any motorsport's tobacco advertising make's a person start smoking because either your a smoker or your not, it has more to do with your surrounding's and the crowd you grewup with, ie peer enfluence.

As far as switching brand's because your favorite team run's a particular brand advert I also think that is virtually non-existant. A smoker chooser's their brand and stick's with it believe me I know . I grewup watching the Silk Cut Jag's and Rothman's race car's and they never made me want to switch from Marlboro's and yes I smoked Marlboro's before I started following F1.

Castrol Jaguar's.

Hey when did Castrol Oil start making ciggy's? :D
