Massa the reason I retired - Schumacher

Nearly two years after announcing his retirement as a Formula One driver, Michael Schumacher has cited his former team-mate Felipe Massa as a primary reason for hanging up his racing helmet.
"I stopped because I didn't want my friend Felipe Massa to be unemployed," the Swiss newspaper Blick quotes the seven time world champion as saying.
"I would have had no problem going up against Kimi Raikkonen," Schumacher adds, refuting the common claim that he objected to having the Finn as his 2007 team-mate.
Massa and Raikkonen, currently equal on points along with Lewis Hamilton in the 2008 championship standings, make up Ferrari's current race line-up.

That dosen't sound like a very good reason to retire to me.
If it's true and that's all it was, could we possible see him back ?

and do you think he would come back to anyone but Ferrari mike? i cant see him anywhere else! Also with the talk of Ferrari getting Kubica, Alonso, Vettel and the pope to drive their cars in 09 is there any room for Schumi?

I agree it is a stupid reason & that's why I said if it WAS true I would not be surprised if he came back. He would only come back to Ferrari & if he wanted to I am sure they would make room for him in a flash.
But I cannot see it happening.

so if Raikonnen retires at the end of the year it wouldnt be to much of a surprise to see Schumi back in the mix for a race seat. He still has the speed it just depends if he wants to go touring round the globe again

If that's true it reflects badly on Massa more that Schumacher. I know he isn't the most gifted driver but he should be able to at least get regular podiums behind schumi because he is in the fastest car and if Schumacher retired because Massa can't keep up then he is worse than I thought

Michael Schumacher will attend all three days of the German grand prix this weekend in his role as special consultant to the Ferrari team.
The retired seven time world champion, who is from Germany, has attended only one other formula one race so far this season; the Spanish grand prix at Barcelona in late April.
It is expected Schumacher, 39, will be at the Hockenheim circuit on Friday through to Sunday, after he plays in the F1 drivers' football team on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the latest weather reports suggest that rain is a 33-35 per cent possibility throughout the forthcoming three-day grand prix event.

Hopefully he can give them some better strategy advise than they got last race.
Don't think he could do any worse.

Schumacher still has the speed, but he will be only interested in racing for Ferrari, and, let's face it, most people on the planet have rumoured to be racing for the Scuderia in the next year or two, so I don't see that happening. Ross Brawn and the other members of the Ferrari dream team are also gone, so Schumacher would basically be coming back to a completely different team. Schumacher also has his legacy to think about. What if he makes a return and things didn't go to plan? Say, the Ferrari wasn't fast enough or other younger drivers were doing just as well, if not better, than him? Sometimes it's better to stop early with your dignity etc. intact than go on for too long and be remembered as a has been. Schumacher may not have won the title in 2006, but he showed his class and other qualities, so it's best to leave it at that.
