Half way through the season, do you think anyone else will come on strong to get to the end and take Rookie of the year?

Nakajima has done well. I hope they give him a second year and williams produce a better car. he seems nearly more consistant than nico.

I was rooting Bourdais for rookie of the year, but his performance has been going downhill every race since Melbourne. For me, rookie of the year so far goes to Timo Glock because he's had some good qualifying runs, and has pulled in some great results for Toyota. However, Nakajima has really been pulling through and has been more consistant than Rosberg like you said.

Glock now is fighting trulli and beating him now and then so hes my choice.

can you still count glock as a rookie he did start races in 04 for me Nakajima, Bourdais and Piquet are the candidates for this year, and Nakajima has really shone especially next to his team mate who is rated highly

Nakajima has been the best rookie easily. Bourdais has impressed me and I have taken a liking to him, I hope he eventually gets round to having the edge over Vettel again like he had at the start of the year.

I agree. Bourdais looked good at the start of the season, but has been going downhill ever since. Vettel, on the other hand, has been starting to get his act togeher and showing what a great young talent he is. Nakajima has easily been the best rookie of the season, which is perhaps slightly surprising. I thought he needed another year in the lower formulae and that he was just getting the Williams seat because Toyota wanted a Japanese driver in the car.

I think most people doubted Nakajima because, despite his rather exciting pace in Brazil at the end of last year, he ran down one of his pit crew. An easy mistake to make in your first race, I guess. I think that Nakajima and Rosberg will be a great pairing that will do Williams well over the next few years. If they can provide a good car then they will see big results.

So, Piquet's two good performances outweigh a season's good work by Nakajima in a Williams that has really underperformed?

If Williams can fix their not-so-good aero they might have a race-winner. But fortunately next year a lot of the aerodynamic junk is being thrown out of the window and the emphasis is being put back on mechanical grip, something the Williams cars in recent years have a phenominal amount of. In Monaco Q2 Rosberg was just 1 tenth slower than Massa's fastest time and finished the session 2nd. So next season could well play into their hands nicely.

A lot of people thought Nakajima would crash a lot for the following reasons;

1. He's Japanese - a stereotypical view of Japanese F1 drivers crashing a lot.
2. Nakajima's father Satoru used to crash a lot.
3. He had the odd big crash in GP2 last year.
4. He mowed down his pit crew in Brazil.
5. People think he was only taken on because of his Toyota connection - which is partly true, but Sir Frank also took him on because he has a good eye for talent. So the Toyota deal is just a bonus.
6. He's a rookie.

All in all he's doing a solid job and has been getting better as the year goes by. If Williams do managed to make a great car next year Kazuki could well re-write a few records in the books.

I hope they give Bourdais another year. With the new aero regs and slicks next year, maybe he will do better because they will handle like Champ Cars?
