Maybe Rob-F1 needs reminded of several occasions that Ferrari's photographers infiltrated the McLaren pit garages to take photographs of the cars. Yes, that's right. Illegal spying from Ferrari on several occasions.

...And they filmed BMW-Saubers pit stops.

Toyota also test new anvil wing

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, July 10th 2008, 10:00 GMT

Toyota have become the latest team to try out an anvil wing engine cover, when Jarno Trulli ran with one for a few laps at Hockenheim on Thursday.

The extended cover was created by Red Bull Racing this year and has been raced by Renault, Force India, and Toro Rosso so far.

McLaren also tried out their version at Hockenheim this week and could race with it in the German Grand Prix.

Toyota are now also looking at the concept as they bid to find the improvements they hope will help them in their fight for fourth place in the constructors' Championship.

Teammate Timo Glock, who completed his work yesterday, was pleased with the progress Toyota have made at Hockenheim this week, as he hopes a bit of good fortune will help him bounce back from a disappointing performance in Silverstone last weekend.

"I would say this week has not been too bad," he said. "We did all of the programme that we have at every test, and there was quite a lot of stuff for here. The new parts on the car were quite positive - and we did a lot of laps and a lot of set-up work.

"I'm looking forward to racing here. In all the races I have ever done at Hockenheim I finished in the top five, so hopefully that is a good sign.

"You never know when you have a difficult race like Silverstone, you can quickly bounce back to the podium or points. It is like Montreal, every time there I have had good results so hopefully Hockenheim, where I have also had good results, will be the same as well."

Another shark in the waters it seems.

Steve Matchett on SPEED gave his opinion concerning the 'shark fin' and his overall belief is that it directs airflow over the rearwing ALOT better. Most were thinking that the huge side area would lead to rearend instability due to crosswind turbulence but his outlook was the airflow over the rearwing far exceeded the crosswind turbulence.

Aero-dynamics, I mean come on... how hard can it be?

On the subject of Williams and their aerodynamics, why is it that the team always seriously fall down in this department? Did the team not get a new wind tunnel a few years ago?

They have indeed, along with a CFD unit like BMW's, but they've never been the same in the aero department since Newey left all those years ago.

Apparently the problem with the FW30 and a couple of its predecessors is the rear end being too heavy, which is why they've been poor at France etc. At least there's lots of tight or low downforce circuits coming up where it goes well at thanks to its immense mechanical grip.

All this talk about aero not working makes you wonder like Clarkson in the picture above.

McLaren undecided over shark fin
Device to be tested again

Jul.11 (GMM) McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen on Friday said the British team may not race at next Sunday's German grand prix the 'shark fin' engine cover it debuted at this week's Hockenheim test.

His teammate, joint championship leader Lewis Hamilton, told reporters earlier this week that he didn't notice a difference when he turned laps with the new bodywork.

"We will test it again I think," said the Briton.

Finn Kovalainen, however, said in a team interview that he thinks the piece was an "advantage" over the standard configuration.

"But it's still too early to say; maybe Hockenheim is not the best place to try this new wing and we need to see if it is affected by crosswinds -- it was quite windy at the Hockenheim test, but we didn't seem to be too affected by the wind," the 26-year-old added.

"It's definitely encouraging for the future."

It's another ugly bit stuck on but if it helps it helps.

Will these shark fins be banned next year along with all the other bits and pieces?

i think so

Toyota confirmed that they will not be using the shark tale this weekend. There's still no word from McLaren, however. Kovalainen likes it, but Hamilton is not so fussed. Perhaps we'll see Kovalainen use it and Hamilton not bother with it. :hehe:

I can imagine James Allen will probably say something along the lines of "And I guess Hamilton isn't using it because it's something Senna never used, yes! Ayrton Hamilton! I mean Lewis Senna! I mean Ayrton Senna! HE never drove with shark fins!".
