Who would buy a game for £40 when its based on last year?

And its too late now to release an F1 game for this year. If they tried to develop one now it would be a really rushed job. Lets hope Codemasters make one hell of a game to make up for 2 years without any brand new F1 games...

IMO, they missed a trick not buying the 2007/2008 licenses. They could have bundled those seasons into F1 '09 (Or whatever they call it) or released them as DLC for it.

Formula 1 fans have breathed a sigh of relief following confirmation from Codemasters that the developer's upcoming F1 video game would be a simulation.

Concern had been raised over on the Cosemasters forum that the F1 license would be used to create a more 'arcade' style racing experience, similar to that seen with Colin McRae DiRT and Race Driver GRID. This concern has, however, been put to rest by Grid executive producer Gavin Raeburn.

"Right, I haven't read every post in this thread, but I get the gist and just to stop you all from panicking too much... GRID and DiRT are aimed at an arcade audience and they do that very well. F1 has different requirements and will get a completely different treatment from our in-house team, including full on sim options, physics, rules and regs etc.," explained Raeburn. 

This doesn't mean the game will alienate fans of the arcade racer, with Raeburn also confirming that the F1 game will have arcade elements.

"We will also have arcade requirements catered for as well. How this will be split we do not know yet, but split it will be," he concluded.
