As a Ferrari fan I cannot understand what is going on with the team. Since the final days of Schumacher and Brawn it seems Ferrari have gone backwards, ok they won the drivers world championship last season (just!) but this season.... what a joke!
Massa in my view cannot drive a car in the wet and this was noticeable as early as his 1st season with Ferrari. His lack of experience and authority also showed up big-time by not telling the team which tyres were necessary, which is exactly what Barrichello did and look where he finished and with a car so inferior to the Ferrari!
It was no coincidence that Barrichello with Ross Brawn as his 'advisor' got their tactics spot-on whereas Ferrari did not - experience!
Massa needs to do what Barrichello did years ago, put slicks on the car and drive at race pace in very wet conditions then he will learn control and how not to keep spinning the car when racing!
The Ferrari backroom team do not seem to have learned any lessons from their 'debut' season and continue to make mistake after mistake which coupled with the stupid driver errors is making Ferrari at times look like amateurs!
It is alright for Domenicali to say 'We made mistakes at every level and even our performance did not match our expectations and now we have to work out why, but calmly without panicking.' - but they make the same mistakes it seems at nearly every race and these comments are now being spouted after every cock-up that occurs.
I just cannot believe the great MS would have suffered this kind of ineptitude if he was still driving!!!
Ferrari still have the remaining races to get their act together if not they will find themselves trailing McLaren and also falling behind BMW-Sauber who are having a great season.
Having criticised Ferrari I take nothing whatsoever away from Lewis Hamilton who was by far the best driver on the day, made fewer mistakes and trounced the field with a wonderful drive and to finish over 1 minute ahead of 2nd place was amazing. His team showed the rest how it should be done and full credit goes to them.
Raikkonen did at least reduce the effect the cock-ups by his team had made in achieving a creditable 4th place but Massa - was he in the same race?

In my view when a driver pit's tire's should alway's be changed regardless of the 'visual' condition or what the driver say's. It take's longer to refuel than it does to get new tires. I just hope the team have learned a valuable lesson in that they need to forget about what the other team's are doing and stick to their original strategy.

@mclaren fan, as another mclaren fan I don't think they can go for the constructors this year as the Ferrari package is too strong. The only thing they've got going is the drivers championship but at least they're past the point of deciding which driver to support for that which I reckon'll give them an advantage or at least a chance. No disrespect to Heikki as he's been pretty unlucky and as Ron says, his time will come but the best hope of anything for Mclaren this year will be to support Hamilton to the end now and while both Ferrari drivers stay in the running it's going to be difficult for them to make that decision.

I agree. Whilst I think the MP4-23 has the potential to become the fastest car on the grid, the fastest car straight out of the box was the Ferrari. On top of that, there has been a mixture of bad luck and flat performances from Kovalainen and some gaffes from Hamilton which have allowed Ferrari to run off with the constructors' title so far. I think, therefore, that despite McLaren's brilliant knack at car development, it may be too little too late in terms of having a decent chance at winning the constructors' title. Another issue is that to win the constructors' title, you need to have both of your drivers putting in strong performances. Hamilton has made some gaffes and, for one reason or another, Kovalainen has not been getting the points. If Hamilton stops making his mistakes and if Kovalainen begins to get some good results, then the team can get back into the constructors' title.

McLaren's car development will keep Hamilton in the drivers' title race, that's for sure. Kovalainen is getting too far behind and has been given a fair crack at the whip, so, unless he has a sudden improvement, the best thing for him to do is help Hamilton's title bid and improve his driving etc. so that he can mount a serious title challenge next season (assuming the car is good enough). In the meantime, Raikkonen and Massa can keep taking points off each other, that is, of course, if Massa can keep the car on the track. :hehe:
