actually only unfit people get injured (thats a fact btw)

how is it that the pro triathletes get injured then? you saying they aint fit?

They push themselves over the limit..?

In Button vs. Hamilton, point would not be in winning at any cost but in giving some charity in fresh and interesting way. Maybe Anthony doesn't like the idea of giving 10000 away..?

i got an injury which stopped me running, so the last thing i did was a triathlon cause it was a gradual injury that id always had and i always wanted to do one, [just wish the swimming was further!], i loved all 3, to compete makes it sso hard, the winning instinct lol

tbh i think lewis shouldnt have said hed do it, and JB doesnt really have anything to loose,

it was lewis' mistake to say he would, he jumped the gun!
injury does decrease with fitness but theres always a chance, and when you have a job riding on it, i wouldnt risk it
#53460
to be honest Lewis shouldnt have said he was fitter than Jenson to begin with

i get the whole competition thing lol, but brash comments like that and then withdrwals aint good, id only say i could beat someone at swimming if i was pretty confident i could!

F1 race ..... Crashes into other cars.
Yaught race .... His boat crashes into another boat at the start.
Triathelon ... You know what, maybe it is too unsafe for poor baby lewis to take part cos hes gonna get hurt..

Hamilton should have taken part in the triathlon. Hamilton still could have got involved but not have given his all in the event. Furthermore, if Hamilton was so worried about injury etc., why he's been yachting amongst other events in the last few weeks?

 Hamilton.

Irrespective of who would win the tri contest (and I happen to think LH personally would have been up for it - but not win) I think his Dad was right, as his manager, to pull him out of the wager. As someone else said, Button has nothing to lose whereas Hamilton, theorectically at least, still has a chance of winning the Championship. Money, I'm afraid, talks in F1 and
their responsibility to the sponsors and the team are too great to risk even the slightest injury which could jeopardise any chance of the Championship at this stage.

Jenson Button has angrily branded his countryman and Formula 1 rival Lewis Hamilton as ‘weak, very weak', after the McLaren-Mercedes ace pulled out of a charity triathlon in which he had agreed to take the Honda star on.

Hamilton initially accepted Button's challenge [see separate story – click here], with the latter further upping the ante by vowing to donate £10,000 to a charity of the 23-year-old's choice should he be beaten in the Bath triathlon.

The bet arose after Hamilton had declared that he was fitter than Button, with the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix winner – a man who finished 117th out of 1,700 entrants, and 14th in his age group, in a semi-professional triathlon last month – subsequently goading him in an FIA press conference to prove it, and David Coulthard egging the pair on by telling Hamilton: “He's throwing down a man challenge; you can't turn down a man challenge.”

Whilst the erstwhile world championship leader initially agreed to take part, less than half an hour later his father Anthony pulled the plug on the idea [see separate story – click here], insisting this year's Australian and Monaco Grand Prix winner focus his efforts solely on his world championship bid – something he has been accused in recent weeks of letting his attentions stray away from. Button, however, clearly remained unimpressed.

“That's weak, very weak,” he is quoted as having said by Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell. “Honestly, I'm surprised. He's an athlete, I'm an athlete – we both love the challenge.

“What happens to the money now? Hopefully he still donates it ...”

Responding to negative media coverage of the incident in British newspapers today, McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh told ITV: “Right now Lewis is damned if he does and he's damned if he doesn't

That sums the matter up.

Hello Anthony.

is signing multimillion dollar deals and filming/photoshooting adverts focusing?...

how many drivers have done adverts? quit with singling lewis out for this all drivers do FFS :bs:

well what harm is a tri-athelon? and a proof of fitness?

The risk of injury is actually quite high in a 'tri'.

actually only unfit people get injured (thats a fact btw)

Senna would be well up for it. he was like the first driver to regulary keep up his fitness pushing to be the greatest! If button was in a mclaren?...

Only unfit people get injured??? Thats laughable! so you saying premiership footballers arent fit???
If Button , or anyone had been in a McLaren today they could not have done what lewis did.. Button spun off.
Whats Senna got to do with it????

I think he meant that if Button was in Hamilton's position he'd have most likely still have gone for the challenge.

The thing that bugs me about this situation is the fact that Lewis Hamilton is 23 not 13, yet the impression is given off that his dad basically made the decision to 'pull out' for him. At 23 he should be perfectly capable of making his own decisions ffs!
