I cried my eyes out when Michael retired. I like David but I think I'll be able to contain myself. I'll miss him tho, he's a great personality.

My only regeret was that Michael didnt stay around long enough to be beaten by Lewis :hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

Yah that could have happened but only when Michael's car brokedown on him! See two can play this game also but I have a feeling we will have a third player shortly.

Yeah its sad to see him go. I bet Vettel will move up, which I hope it doesnt happen because I dont like Vettel.

Why is that? Is it because you heard from me that Schumi has taken Vettel under his wing?

It was pretty predictable that he was going to retire at the end of this year, but nonetheless I wish him best for the future. He's made us all smile (France 2000, Portugal 1994), laugh (Adelaide 1995, Monaco 2001 and countless interviews with Louise Goodman) but it is sure going to feel strange without him next year.

Yeah. To be honest, Formula 1 without Schumacher still feels weird to me. When Barrichello, Fisichella and Trulli retire, the sport will feel so strange because nobody that was around when I first started watching will be around anymore. It's a shame that DC is retiring, seeing as RBR have a huge shot at being massively competitive next year.

I'm quite sure that young Vettel will get the drive, with perhaps Ant Davidson moving into the spare STR seat or maybe Sebastian Buemi. I'd like it to be Davidson, though, because I think he could put that car in the top ten like Vettel has done. The Vettel/Webber pairing would, I think, be quite formidable with a quality car.

Another whinge partnership in the making :D but yes a good driver pairing

Ooops I meant to say I wouldnt like Vettel in that RBR seat, sorry, but I do find Vettel annoying at times.

Red Bull also extended Webber's contract til the end of 09 right after david announced his retirement.

I wouldn't actually like to see Vettel get the seat, either. I'd much prefer Davidson to get it, to be honest, because I'd like to see him in F1 and in a competitive car. Or Rubens would be nice to see in a better car, but of course we actually have the possibility of a decent Honda next year, so who knows?

Not unexpected news from Coulthard, but I'm glad to read that he is not hanging up his helmet just yet. He still has a lot to offer motor racing. I don't completely agree with some of his paranoid views on Grand Prix's safety standards, but he was a character, conducted himself professionally and is a team player. Formula One will seem a little bit different without him being around next season.

The anti-Michael Schumacher sentiments on here are inappropriate in my view. First, this thread is about Coulthard's retirement, and, second, as much as Schumacher was a contentious figure, his name is known everywhere, he's a decent man off the track and was always upfront about this sometimes over-zealous competative streak. Formula One does feel a little strange without him.

I'm not sure who I would like to see take Coulthard's seat next season. I am, however, pretty sure that Vettel will get it. I don't mind that, for he's clearly got potential and is starting to show some of it now. A driver I think did a good job was Davidson. I'd also like to see him back racing in some capacity.

Finally, I agree with Denthúl about Bruno Senna. Things are going well for the lad at the minute and he clearly has a lot of potential, but it's a big step up to Formula One. Another year in a lower Formula may not be a bad idea for him. If not that, he should at least join a smaller team at which the expectations are much lower, an option I'm glad he seems to be considering.

I will be sad to see him go, but it seems to be on his own terms, so that is good. I think Vettel is a dead cert for the seat. but who will be in the other STR.

I think if he ever does move into F1 people are going to expect him to be Ayrton. I do not think he has blown the doors of the lower Formula's like Ayrton did. His life in motorsport will always be to be compared to Ayrton. It will be like Ralf and Michael, Did he get to where he was because of his name or because he was a good driver! and as I do not think Bruno will ever be as good as Ayrton, he will always be classed as a PR exercise.

I'm sure they will think of something else

Will be sad to see him go but I think I shall live on, he had to go sometime

He is to be a consultant and test driver for RB, and I think that he will be a great asset to RB with that.
