I find that the amount of negative comment any sports 'star' gets, amongst the fans, is directly related to the amount of media coverage that person gets.
In G.B. there is much negative criticism, amongst the particular sports fans, of David Beckham, Andy Murray and Tim Henman (before he retired), (its Wimbledon tennis week here now) and various other high profile 'stars' including, of course LH.
Its an interesting observation by a football fan friend of mine, that, if a foreign player for a GB team gets lots of publicity, he is less likely to get negative comment by the supporters than a 'home grown' player.

The facts are that LH is a very talented driver, he does have the potential, and the time, to become one of the real greats in F1, he is, relatively, inexperienced in F1 and life generally. The Media attention is a new pressure that he has to cope with, so, maybe he does not always get it right, but, you cannot be a world champion in anything by constantly being 'Mr Nice Guy' the whole time.
Every world champ there ever was has had supporters and detractors, so maybe all this stuff now is a good sign for him, in that its another sign that he is world champion material !. 8)
One day LH will be world champ, I feel sure, in fact I feel sure that he will be world champ more than once - he will always command a seat in a top car. McL & RD are not fools, LH only has a drive there because they see the potential in him.
If LH were the worst person in the world then this planet would be a much nicer place to live. Unfortunately, we also have people like MM on this planet. :|
Extreme comments, either way, about LH are not justified. He is just a young man with lots of talent and things to learn. Why cant we leave it at that?

Good post again Martin! Of course Lewis gets things wrong sometimes. hes 23! he doesnt manipulate the media, they manipulate him

Are you really that naive, or are you just wearing rose-tinted spectacles?

Do you? How so?

You're putting words in people's mouths by implying it's impossible to think Lewis Hamilton is an insufferable git without it being because you're jealous of his success.

It's also a broken assumption, because there are equally and even more successful drivers many of us think are great people.

:nono: Not putting words into anyones mouth, simply agreeing with an alternative scenario to the "Lewis is an ungrateful arrogant insufferable git" camp. We all have our own opinions and can expresss them, it isn't only the right of the hamilton haters.

What's your point? It's still wrong to assume that people only hate him because they're jealous.

:banghead: I think my point was made perfectly clear. what is there not to understand about it?
I'm not assuming they ONLY hate him because they're jealouse but its a valid theory for a lot of the bullpoo doing the rounds
:curse:

So... can you elaborate a bit more why do you think we hate him?

From my point of view..:

Never went to same school with Lewis, never got my undies pulled or being bullied in any other way by him
Never actually met him in personal
He didn't hurt me or anyone dear to me in any way
Always supported British teams (Williams and McLaren... in fact, switched from Williams to McLaren because of DC - another Briton driver)
Have a few Britons among my favorites (Mansel, Hill, DC)
Not a racist (you'll have to take my word for that)

Now... maybe I am delusional myself, but I can't see a reason why should I hate him, so I believe the reason I don't like him instead is only because of the way he is presenting himself to me (and I'm saying "to me" because the way he is presenting himself might be observed differently by you or anyone else).

So actually I'm finding myself being a bit insulted when you address me (as I am among the people not liking Lewis) a HATER. As you might have mentioned I'm trying to limit my opinion to Lewis and other drivers (and team members) without involving their fans while - from my point of view - you are addressing me in personal because I don't agree with your view of Lewis.

I'm also completely failing to understand why are some of you so defensive about Lewis to the extend you are willing to hit back on personal level if someone dislikes him. Is he a family? Best buddy? Boyfriend? He's just another driver, for God's sake.

Correct, I'm definitely not jealous of LH, he's carrying his own shovel at the moment and doing an extremely good job of digging his own hole.

I started out liking him, but coming out after making a rookie's mistake and trying to blame the team was the final straw. Before this incident I saw him as cheesy, but was willing to put that down to the media blitzkreig that's currently happening in the UK over Lewis.

I'm starting to believe Alonso when he said his presence gave the team half a second a lap. McLaren certainly are feeling the pinch of having two drivers that don't know what they are doing.

Where did alonso's half a secong just go? Whoops Piquet beat him :laugh::laugh:

As regards the jealousy issue, you mis the point, its not personal jealousy, as you obviosly would not be in contenton with Lewis now would you

So now we should call you Alonso hater.

Wouldn't that be a futile exercise...?

Alonso's half a second have gone into developing car, and thinking about it, Renault has pushed development of that no-good vehicle quite a bit during the season so far. Little Piquet is enjoying results of that development just as much and, like Lewis, he might turn out to be fast as, but McLaren this year is just another proof being fast as is just not enough.

It's not even worth a response, you have no idea how to follow a constructive argument.

Totally agree nikon, Alonso is my favourite driver on the grid so you no I may be slightly favourable towards him. But you can see how hard he is driving that Renault this year. Piquet is starting to benefit now, but Alonso is still eclipsing him... Magny Cours strategy played a large part.

C'mon guys... its simple: Racechick is a Lewis FAN. There's not much to it, and its not the end of the world.
However... she would be a much wiser and likeable person if she were a Ferrari or Alonso fan, but to each its own :D

Yeah excellent point, I was listening to Alonso on the team radio before and during the race at Monaco and he seems to know what he's doing when it comes to integrating with his engineers on race day decisions.

Part of the reason why I think Ferrari is still quick, Schumacher hasn't really left their side and he's taken Massa under his wing, that kind of experience is invaluable to a team.

McLaren are going to suffer for a couple of more years unless they get an experienced and mature driver in their stable...
