he is just starting to pave the way for Danica to get a race seat with this comment

Patrick threatening F1 veterans? No way!

Honda would love to have her in a race seat, imagine the exposure they would get from having a woman plus even better an American woman.

Given the standard of equipment that Button and Barrichello have been driving, I think they've both done a pretty good job this season. Brawn is also quite a big admirer of of Barrichello's input to a team, so that also suggests he has a decent chance of staying. I don't really think anybody extra special will be looking to jump to Honda next year. The big guns in the sport either have contracts for their current teams, are happy to stay at the team at which they are, or both. The rule changes apply to everybody and make predictions about the strength of teams something of a lottery, so leaving even a half-decent team could turn out to be a mistake just as easily as it could be the right decision.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sure it would be good for publicity and would have nothing against her trying her luck in F1. I was talking about performance though and in that regard I don't think she's a threat to the current Honda boys. She would have an advantage in other departments though.

I think we are reading more into this than there is, This is just a message to JB and RB saying "Don't rest on your laurels (spl) lad, keep digging deep"

Its also about preparing the ground for contract negotiations. If Honda look 'unloved' then that puts Rubens & Jenson in a stronger position to negotiate. Honda has to look strong and desirable in their negotiating stance.
However, I too suspect that Jenson will stay, and Rubens will move on. But, what do we know? Jenson may receive a much better offer and decide to move on himself. It is the job, after all, of managers to find their drivers the best options.

Not a chance. Neither Jenson nor Rubens need any such message, Nick surely knows that.

Exactly. What have they been doing (Jenson even more so) for the past couple of yrs? They don't need Fry's comments to the press to up their game, if he wanted THEM to up their game he would say this to them, not to the press.

The message he sent to them is very clear: whatever effort you put to pull Honda out of the very back of the grid will only be used to attract better drivers to your seats. Yes, it's a bussiness, and it happens in every team... heck its the natural market law... but you don't hear the top teams' principals saying this.

Fry wants the exposure Danica would bring to them. And Honda too. After all, USA is Honda's biggest market... that market is what they're after.

totally agree with you but how many F1 seats have been won on politics and nationality alone in the past instead of talent? too many to name :vomit:

I have to say, I am really starting to dislike Nick Fry.

Same here, especially after the way he stuck his nose in Super Aguri's affairs effectively killing them off and for then coming out and saying "F1 doesn't need privateers".

I'm expecting a lot of angry Sato fans to turn up at Fuji brandishing anti-Fry banners etc.

Anyone go to the British Grand Prix after party in 2005, when Nick Fry turned out with the sunshades on and tried t crack a few jokes to Tony Jardine :P?

I hope the BBC try and lure back Tony Jardine, one of the best F1 pundits around.
