I would really like to see some of the old, classic Grand Prix times back in the sport. Lotus, who are, in my view, the greatest Formula One team ever, would be brilliant to have back. It would also be great to see the likes of Tyrell and Brabham back in the sport.

Careful what you wish for! A long time has passed since these teams were a factor in F1, technology has advanced like crazy. If such an old team re-entered and then bombed, legends could get destroyed :(

Lotus would be cool to have back. I want Audi really bad in F1.

Volkswagen (=Audi) is in financial turmoils - Porsche is taking over. Doubt that'll improve the bottom line for Volkswagen. Anyway, both companies have expressed their reluctance to enter F1, which makes sense considering their financial situation.

Why does Audi still run their R10 program then?

That's what they do. But to expect them to enter high-priced F1 would be daydreaming.

Then I guess I dream too much. I just think it would be soooo cool to have Audi, BMW, and Mercedes in F1.

A well funded and motivated privateer is more likely to succeed than a reluctant manufacturer, who ARE only in it for the money / prestige / sales image.
Two good opposite examples - BMW and Toyota. Toyota has money but poor management, BMW has money and good management.
Being a motor manufacturer is not a sure way into F1.
Any new, extra (as opposed to a take over) team will have to start from scratch, but there are plenty of good people about the sport. However, a new team will need support from an existing team if it is going to become competitive quickly. Starting from absolute scratch, with no agreement with an existing team, will make it too much of a hurdle for most sponsors.
Bernie will have to work hard to fill the grid slots, if Ultimate do come in then that will be great.
Whats wrong with customer cars? There should be some limitations to prevent 4 equal cars, but tech support, component supply and co-operation between teams etc should be allowed. There should be rules to prevent the 1st team using the 2nd team as a poor relation test bed. The 2nd team should have the autonomy to go its own way to some extent.

It would be nice to see another team but the customer car issue is being blocked by some big names, Frank williams for one (who used to run customer cars in the 70's) and i belive Max is against the idea (anyone remember how he got into the sport oh thats right he started MARCH who's customers included Tyrell ).
And do we want another team trundling around with the Toro Rosso's and the Force Indias, i mean Toyota havent got it right yet and they have a good budget and some pretty good pple behind them one F3 season doesnt mean they are ready for F1, if a new team join id like to see a team that can fight for points and podiums (ala BMW) and not just make up numbers as another backmarker

I agree. At the minute, a new Formula One team or one being take over is nothing but a name change. Many of these new teams seem to be operations run by millionaires wanting a platform to show off of their wealth rather than giving a toss about the sport. I would really like to see Minardi or Jordan back in the sport. Yeah, they didn't score a lot of points, but they contributed to Formula One by making up for their lack of cash and performance with passion.

We put up a decent fight in '99 :P

I would love nothing more than to see Jordan back in the sport, because they (like Minardi) had such great character and racing spirit.

Honda to power American F1 project?
Mon 16 Jun, 02:44 PM

Following Super Aguri's demise, Honda may soon have another satellite Formula One team up and racing.

Reports from Portugal claim that Ken Anderson, a well-known US engineer who has worked in prominent F1 roles, is in promising talks about setting up an American outfit.

The reports said that while nothing is guaranteed, the Honda-powered team could be ready to debut as soon as 2009.

Anderson was reportedly a Honda guest throughout the recent Montreal race weekend, meeting with team chiefs Ross Brawn and Nick Fry.

None of the parties wanted to comment, but sources close to Honda have apparently said that the Japanese manufacturer is ready to sell engines, gearboxes and KERS systems to the new team.

Anderson is said to be meeting with F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone in London this week.

The US outfit would be assisted by Honda's North American arm, as well as several backers from within the US, while Takuma Sato is favourite for the lead cockpit.

Portugal's Alvaro Parente, who made his F1 test debut in January as a prize for winning the 2007 World Series by Renault, was mentioned as a possibility for the other seat.

The reports said Anderson's F1 team could be announced officially in mid-summer.
