I hope they do get into F1 next year, and if its not them I hope another team steps in. In my opinion, I think its best to have all 12 spots occupied.

Fledgling F3 and World Series team Ultimate Motorsport has exclusively revealed that it could be on the verge of making the huge leap to Formula One as soon as next year.

The admission was made by team manager Barry Walsh, who claims he has been working on ambitious plans behind the scenes for some time and is now just dependent on a deal regarding customer cars going his way.

The squad has made a significant impact in the British F3 Championship since debuting in 2007, not least because it shunned the popular Dallara chassis in favour of the little-known Mygale.

However, on the weekend where it will start from a first-ever British F3 pole position at Snetterton, and is also challenging at the sharp end of the World Series grid at Silverstone, Walsh told Crash.net that the plan has always been to do F1.

Although refusing to be drawn on whether the entry would be entirely private or involve manufacturer backing, Walsh said that a formal announcement regarding the move could be made in the next few months.

“The main ambition is to take Ultimate to F1 because this has all been geared in order to get there,” he said. “We are working very hard to achieve it and we have been working closely with different partners to get the right people to do the job properly.

“We are talking to many parties in order to do this and we've spent a lot of time getting the right people together. It is coming together quicker than we thought, but we are very comfortable with the position we are currently in.”

So far, Walsh has pencilled in a debut for 2010, but hasn't ruled out appearing as early as next season, pending an agreement on the Concorde Agreement over customer cars.

“It is hard to say [when we can get on the grid]," he admitted, "We are pushing to race in 2009, but we are waiting for the outcome of the Concorde Agreement, which will have a big bearing on what we do

It would be nice to see another team but the customer car issue is being blocked by some big names, Frank williams for one (who used to run customer cars in the 70's) and i belive Max is against the idea (anyone remember how he got into the sport oh thats right he started MARCH who's customers included Tyrell ).
And do we want another team trundling around with the Toro Rosso's and the Force Indias, i mean Toyota havent got it right yet and they have a good budget and some pretty good pple behind them one F3 season doesnt mean they are ready for F1, if a new team join id like to see a team that can fight for points and podiums (ala BMW) and not just make up numbers as another backmarker

It's going to be hard for private teams to join, and i disagree, the only team i think and agree with, is Williams & Force India, they have the money, and with Force India they are high rated teams that have a good opprotunity in the future, but any more small teams will just bring dissapointment to the F1 Teams, as drivers careers are constantly put on the line because there isn't enough dosh to go around :)

I think Force India will probably drop out sometime. Mallya will get tired of losing, and he thinks you can jump to the top right away. I think he's in it for the money, not the love.

I would really like to see Ultimate Motorsport come into F1, it's been too long since we last saw teams climbing up from lower Formulae. :)

I dont know about that i mean Mallya is behind some big motorsport incentives in india.
maybe an option for Ultimate Motorsport is to aquire toro rosso... red bull want out at the end of the year after all

That would probably be the best move for them, and a good one at that.
It would probably benefit both parties.

I agree. At the minute, a new Formula One team or one being take over is nothing but a name change. Many of these new teams seem to be operations run by millionaires wanting a platform to show off of their wealth rather than giving a toss about the sport. I would really like to see Minardi or Jordan back in the sport. Yeah, they didn't score a lot of points, but they contributed to Formula One by making up for their lack of cash and performance with passion.

Call me an idealist but I can't help believe racing should be for the joy and excitement of the fans. I love the rule changes that have made the front of the grid competitive, but there appears little to distinguish those lingering at the rear.

Between Super Aguri-Honda, Force India and Toro Rosso there has been little to entertain me, while they look like play things for the rich and famous. I'd like to see more teams like Ultimate Motorsport bring the race back to the people.

Totally agree, hopefully the 2009 regulations will steer F1 back into that direction - but more can be done. Love your username BTW!

what happened to lancia trying to buy STR? why dont prodrive try an entry.

alfa romeo? aston martin? these are companies that have the reputation and cash to splurge and maybe even the know how to compete

Aston Martin has the reputation, but Dave Richard owns them under the prodrive umbrella now. If prodrive cant enter F1 then Aston Martin is a no hope.

I would really like to see some of the old, classic Grand Prix times back in the sport. Lotus, who are, in my view, the greatest Formula One team ever, would be brilliant to have back. It would also be great to see the likes of Tyrell and Brabham back in the sport.

Lotus would be cool to have back. I want Audi really bad in F1.

Volkswagen (=Audi) is in financial turmoils - Porsche is taking over. Doubt that'll improve the bottom line for Volkswagen. Anyway, both companies have expressed their reluctance to enter F1, which makes sense considering their financial situation.
