Never had the chance to experience James Hunt's commentary although I've heard about his dislike for Patrese, seem to remember an old video of a Monaco race, perhaps 83 or 85 when Patrese was involved in a shunt and I was rather taken aback by his vitriol!

Was he still the commentator when he died?

IIRC yes he was still doing it when he died. He had proposed to his girlfriend 11 hours prior to his fatal heart attack.

If I were in charge James Hunt could say anything he pleased with impunity. he put the colour in colour commentary.

Hunt was a great commentator. He was both funny and intelligent. Further, he didn't bullpoo as well, which is what the likes of Allen do all the time. Hamilton being compared to Senna on his first race win in a McLaren?! Get a life. Then, Walker, as he did with Brundle, would regurgitate or rephrase something Hunt said, trying to make himself sound knowledgeable. That too was funny. :)

It'll be so good not having any adverts next year. I'm sure ITV's ad breaks used to be really short until this season. They seem to be really long and it's annoying. if they want adverts, why don't they have ONE full length ad break in the middle of the race and be done with it?

Their losing of the F1 rights is to do with them wanting to 'concentrate on the Champions' League'. Now, I love the Champions' League, but they already have that, and A) they don't have adverts in the middle of the play, and B) it's another way of saying 'we don't have the money'. ITV can't be trusted anyway, if today's news is anything to go by.

I do hope the BBC sign Martin Brundle though. He doesn't hold any grudges against anyone (unlike Hunt), doesn't sound patronising (unlike Palmer or Hunt), and is a very good commentator and analyst (unlike Allen). Plus he doesn't want to have Lewis Hamilton's babies. I think Steve Rider has done a very good job this year and last, despite too much pro-Hamilton-ness (which he can't really do anything about). He used to cover F1 on the BBC and it's a shame that he can't return for the '09 F1 season, because I'm guessing ITV has him locked down to do the football. Jim Rosenthal doesn't do much these days...

Once again ITV make a royal mess of the coverage with the not only stupid amount of ad breaks but the increasing length of them too. Clearly they are bitter they're losing F1 coverage, bet they won't be doing that with the Euro 2008 coverage.

Actually, I put that to the test over the past couple of weeks (yes, I know, sad) and there has been no increase in the length of the add breaks, they are just putting more, shorter ads in to them. And placing them at times when we might miss action on track.

I have to say that I really enjoyed their post-race analysis and driver interviews this evening.

The press conference pissed me off. There's an hour build up, yet there's only time to hear from the first placed driver in the conference. Ridiculous.

I'm sick of it. I turn on ITV at 5.05pm to find in the first 5 mins alone, over 20 mentions of the name Hamilton. Video montage after video montage of his drives in Canada and that joke of a Monaco review, i'm surprised they never used the Indiana Jones theme in any of it to describe Hamilton anymore as a hero.

ITV HAVE 4 CHANNELS! Why the hell does the coverage have to stop so early, why didn't they switch over to ITV4? JOKE!

Furthermore, DC (A British Driver) is on the podium and what do they do? They don't even show you what he has to say. Not to mention Heidfeld who looked pissed. I bet if tht was Lewis in 3rd they WOULD have showed him and probs not even Robert. Absolute Joke. I don't want to dislike Hamilton, but media coverage like that ruins it for me, no mention of Jenson either, who was really struggling.

From autosport.com:

Nick Heidfeld said he was very happy with second place at the Canadian Grand Prix, despite seeing teammate Robert Kubica give BMW Sauber their maiden victory.

Heidfeld, who has spent seven seasons in the team previously known as Sauber, had to settle for second after Kubica took full advantage of the retirements of Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton.

The German seemed to have a chance of winning during some parts of the race, but in the end Kubica's pace prove unmatchable.

It was the second time this season that the Pole made history for BMW, having already taken their first pole position.

Despite missing out of victory, Heidfeld was delighted with the result.

"Obviously I'm very happy with second position," he said. "It was a good race for me and a good result in the situation I am in at the moment," said Heidfeld, who is struggling with his performance with the softer tyres.

"We have seen over the weekend it is going better for me."

He added: "I have been with team since the beginning, with BMW and Williams with Sauber. It's great to have a victory with Robert and a one-two. It shows we are still going in the right direction.

"It shows in the last three we years achieved our goals which we did set quite high.

"Now for next year our target is to fight for the championship. We are working flat out for that. A big thanks to the team, especially the guys in Hinwil who built me a new chassis after Monaco."

The result was Heidfeld's second podium of the season following second place in Australia.

Heidfeld said the track conditions were better than he had expected following the problems with the surface cracking up during qualifying.

"On one side it was not what an F1 circuit should look like, but it was a lot better than I expected. Yesterday in qualifying was even worse than today in the race, so the repairs they did today were good."

Coulthard savours unexpected podium

By Jonathan Noble and Pablo Elizalde Sunday, June 8th 2008, 19:43 GMT

David Coulthard was overjoyed after finishing on the podium at the Canadian Grand Prix, a result he admitted he never expected.

The Scot has endured a tough start to the season, being outshone by teammate Mark Webber, who had scored all of Red Bull's points until Montreal.

But Coulthard, starting from 13th place, benefited from the conditions and from a one-stop strategy to score his first points of the season, 14 years after having grabbed his maiden F1 points.

"I am delighted because I never expected to get a podium this weekend," said Coulthard. "I had a horrible start to the year. It's a real credit to Red Bull Racing for the efforts they are putting in."

"It is my 62nd podium and I'm delighted to be there today as in 1994. Canada was where I scored my first points so I'm in a reflective mood as 15 seasons is a long time, especially after such an ugly start to the season."

Coulthard endured a difficult last part of the race, with his car suffering brake problems.

The Red Bull driver had a scare near the end, when he almost went off track, but in the end managed to bring his car home.

"You cannot believe how difficult it is. I just had to bring the car home. Funny enough the car stopped in the pitlane so I'm glad it did it after chequered flag," he said.

He's clearly towing the team line. It's good to see drivers who don't vent their grievances in public fora.

Thanks for that interview MF because I missed those two because Fox na aires the races instead of SPEED. Its basically the American version of ITV= long breaks, no pre-race show, and only the driver in first gets the interview. I want SPEED back!!
