always thretened to get up there, so i dont think hes light on fuel, 5 manufacturers in the top 5

good chance for renaults top driver

There have been a couple of times this season that we thought Alonso had gone slightly lighter than the others on fuel and were proved wrong, so we can't really say that Alonso is running too light on fuel for this Grand Prix. Alonso put in a great performance, and made Piquet look like a complete amateur - again.

I don't think Alonso needed to help, mind you. Nelson did that by himself. He is clearly not ready to be in Formula 1, but I can see no way for him to improve unless he keeps his drive with Renault. If he goes to a testing seat, he will hardly get any time in the cars whatsoever and his talent (which we know he has but fails to put to work) will be wasted.

Once again, to show him up even more, Nakajima was quite fast, though it was a shame he didn't make it into Q3.

It is odd 8) Whats going on! I do feel sorry for him. it seems like he's on a downward spiral and i dont think hes as bad as he's appearing to be. hats off to alonso though even if i dont like the guy.

I want Alonso at Ferrari, bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alonso is a hero and a great driver. If the Renault were up to scratch like in 2005 and 2006 Alonso could win it again this year. If Ferrari could just get him like even next year, Alonso will for the first time also have the best car and with his telant be able to follow in the steps of Michael Schumacher. Actaully imagine that, Schumi won twice in a row for Benetton (Which is now Renault) and then when Schumi went to Ferrari he eventually won another 5 titles. Now imagine this, Alonso who already has won 2 titles for Renault (Which was once Benetton), then goes to Ferrari and starts winning title after title. Now that is a much better properous outlook for F1 than Lewis Hamilton winning titles and furthermore Lewis Hamilton winning for McLaren and EVIL-CHEAT Ron Dennis. Forza Ferrari, Vamos Arriba Alonso. Viva Italia y viva España...............y Eslovenia también.

alonso at ferrari would be untenable for me

Oh well at the end of the day it doesn't matter as Alonso himself wants to be at Ferrari and when regarding Alonso all that really matters is what he wants for himself. ;-)

No, Alonso wants to be in THE BEST team possible. I think he'll play safe and keep options opened as long as he can. Who can say Renault car will not outperform Ferrari in 2009, for example, and why would Alonso leave for Ferrari in 2010 if that happens? Or, if BMW improves that much and shows interest for Alonso - why would he even consider Ferrari? After all, he denied Ferrari rumours himself - which, I think, is part of his safe play.

When you think of it, among the top teams Ferrari is the one with most championships in a row, but also one with longest dry period; and their winning team with MS, Todt, Brawn has disintegrated. F1 is sport with inertia, so who is to say they will not suffer for that in the long run? Their last year success anyway was good luck as much as good performance, if not more.

I'm not particularly a McLaren fan, but considering they would have topped Ferrari last year by some distance in the WCC if it hadn't been for Spygate, it's wrong to say that Alonso has not had a chance in the best car. He had his opportunity last year and didn't take it.
