But at what cost? If he's fuelled significantly lighter than the Ferraris and the safety car comes out towards the end of his stint...

Well, it's not something to really dwell on, but Lewis and McLaren will have to be very careful if that is the case. It was a great lap, though I honestly thought that Kubica had done enough to take pole, really.

Hamilton may be lighter on fuel than the Ferraris, but even that does not account for the difference between the two cars. Hamilton's a quick guy, and the McLaren has plenty of mechanical grip and has a pretty decent straight-line speed, too. A lot can and will happen in the race tomorrow, so it's too early to say if McLaren and Hamilton will win, but after that performance there is no reason to say why they should not.

I'm not basing the whole of the gap on fuel difference, but if it is enough and there's a safety car period, we could see him suffer like Rubens and Nick have this season, and that's not something that we want.

True, and I completely agree, but your first post on this thread stated that McLaren/Hamilton were 'significantly' lighter on fuel than Ferrari/Raikkonen, which I'm not sure is completely accurate. I think Hamilton is lighter, but not quite by that much. As you and I have said, however, a hell of a lot is going to happen tomorrow: safety cars, for instance, are a common occurrence in Canada, and it could be out a lot more given that the track is disintegrating!

I did say if he is fuelled significantly lighter, which may very well be the case given the time difference between himself and the other drivers, and also between that lap and the one before it. Of course, it may not, but I was merely pointing out that if he were, he could run into trouble as the safety car probably spends more time on the track in Canada than it does at most other races put together.

Fair enough. Apologies.

Rain would be awesome. And it would give Rubens a good chance of getting those points. Could also allow Jens to make it into the top eight if there are enough crashes and safety car periods.
