I fellow member of the Ferrari forum I'm on attended the LeMans serie's race this past weekend at Monza and took some great pic's of the old banking. It make's me sad to see such a historically significant track in such disaray and make's me want to see it in person before it is lost forever. I hope everyone enjoy's the pic's.

Those are some cool pics!! What are they planning on doing with the banking in the future? I hope they leave it there because someday I will see an F1 race at Monza and I hope it will still be there!

I do not know what the goverment plan's to do with the old track but I will be crushed if it is not restored for historical purpose's. Monza to me is the mecca of all F1 track's and not just because it is Ferrari's home track but because it is the poo's of what I think a track should be. Heck look at these pic's one could have a nice picnic while listening to the engine music echoing through the forest, I would have to pinch myself every so often just to make sure I'm not dreaming :wink:.

I wanna get married under that arch way! 8)

Why would they wanna restore it? I think it looks fine as it is. To be honest tex I dont know why you would want to take a picnic while a race is going on, the only exception I would make is that if I was in the mood and my girlfriend was in the mood, I would totally want to make love in that picnic area

But yeah that thingie would be nice to get married under, but I'm young and marriage is the last thing on my mind

Yes it does look fine as it has so much character and I did not mean to sound like I meant a full restoration only an 'upkeep' job so it does not crumble to the ground. The picnic/shag idea was meant to take place AFTER the race. :)

It should be restored dammit. It would be soo cool to see racing on the old school Monza layout with the banking and the road course, im pretty sure that would make it unique in the fact that a race can be held on both at the same time

It would be nice to see banking of some sort used at Monza, but the old banking is too steep to even be considered for use by the FIA. Also, it would mean having to remove the whole straight leading up to Parabolica and Parabolica itself. In doing that, you would remove the high-speed straights that are characteristic of Monza, damage the flow of the track, and take away one of the best corners in Formula One.

Those Monza pics are brilliant i am going to make them desktop image.

Regarding what MF said about the banking being to steep. I'm wondering is that why it is unlikely we will see a f1 race at laguna seca?

The banking there is not quite as steep, nor is it sustained like the Monza's old oval. Laguna Seca has some completely blind high-speed corners, so possibly that features in the FIA's thinking. Another possible reason would be Laguna Seca's infrastructure. I'm not sure that aspect of the track meets Ecclestone's standards.

It doesnt. It has small run-off areas compared to the ones used for F1 races.

That too. I was thinking in terms of the facilities Ecclestone would demand for VIPs etc. Ecclestone would want Laguna Seca to upgrade itself to something akin to Bahrain. At the minute, Laguna Seca probably makes Silverstone look modern.
No it woudnt the oval runs parrell to the back straight and around the back of parabolica and links up to the pit straight

Your picture only serves to prove what I said. The image I attached shows the banking could be connected to the current circuit, but anything after the Lesmos would have to go. As I said earlier, the banking is too steep and has no run off areas, so the FIA would never allow the circuit to be raced on. (By the way, the red line would be the joining point between the current circuit and the old oval. I choose here because it would make the change to the layout seemless. Maybe even another Violone and Ascari could be created!)

Ahh I see what you're saying. Laguna has been improving their facilities in the past years because of the motogp race. They really need a lot of grandstands to host an F1 race, and the only grandstands they have are by turn 11 and turn 4.
