Video: Stewards may throw Red Bull out
Clicky image to watch Image

In an unprecedented step the stewards of the Malaysian Grand Prix are considering excluding the Red Bull cars from competing on the grounds their car is dangerous
David Coulthard had this unusual crash in the first session when he ran across a kerb prompting a suspension collapse.
The stewards have asked them to supply a technical report on the incident and considering excluding them under article 2.3 of the technical regulations: “The stewards of the meeting may exclude a vehicle whose construction is deemed to be dangerous.”
Coulthard had a similarly dramatic failure in the Australian race following contact with Felipe Massa. But so did Timo Glock’s Toyota after it was thorn into the air by a bump situated off the track. Mark Webber also retired from the race with suspension damage after colliding with Anthony Davidson.
There have been past occasions where teams have withdrawn from races due to car failures - Minardi at the 2002 Spanish Grand Prix and Sauber at the 2000 Brazilian Grand Prix - but I can’t remember an occasion when the stewards barred a team from competing on safety grounds.

You can't have just 18 cars competing, that's stupid! But Red Bull really do need to look at that car again. I'm still convinced that it was a left rear suspension failure. If you watch the clip carefully, just as Coulthard is veering towards the kerb and wall you see the left rear of the car going down slightly and the right front of the car rise up a little bit.

That would mean that only eight teams would be racing.

Depends. Although we all know STR is running the same car, the Paddock seems woefully unwilling to acknowledge that

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure it would give Frank Williams and Vijay Mallya an opportunity to push more on the customer car issue had it been done.

Coulthard's accident looked like something went wrong with the car. I don't think that the car is dangerous, but it is very fragile and certain components on the car need reviewed.

Okay McLarenFan, wouldn't you say you're contradicting yourself in one and the same sentence?
If it's fragile and could break at 300km/h it IS dangerous - DC was just lucky nothing serious happened to him. What if he had hit another car and injured the driver?

I don't really believe that I am contradicting myself. The drivers are so well protected these days in the event of something serious occurring. I wouldn't say Coulthard was lucky; I'd say the safety measures did their job.

He was lucky it didn't happen at 300km/h or else he'd be toast and any other driver in his way. I'm exaggerating here, but the bottom line is if a car might break due to unsafe engineering, it is a dangerous car.
