To be honest, I think you're all silly to dislike a man because there's a media hype built up around him. You should take your frustration out on the media and not the one that they are making such fuss about.

This is true. But there is something else about him I don't like but I can't put my finger on. I think it's that he schmoozes too much and it grates a little. In terms of British drivers, I much prefer DC as he says what he thinks (and looks great in a cape  )

there is something isnt there, too goody goody?

I still see him as someone who tries hard to look good, but does not always act accordingly. For me, good guys (even in F1):

- don't criticize their team publicly even if team is not performing
- don't pretend to be smarter than team strategists while still being rookies
- don't drop team strategy and do their own "magic" (as good guys are team players)
- don't try making themselves look good by publicly saying things like "I was asked to do everything to make him feel at home" - they just do it
- don't publish their biography at the beginning of career - makes them look greedy and insulting for their fans
- don't use F* word over the radio, specially not to a man they own everything
- don't attract such a sick public attention (including people like James Allen)

Now... to be honest, many good drivers are same more or less. Senna, Prost, MS, FA... were/are all a far cry from nice, modest guys. But most of them have proved themselves first. I mean, really, people - biography after *almost* winning championship? What is next? Sutil's biography after almost finishing 4th in Monaco..?

Maybe that comes with the job, and every next generation is more sharky than previous. Or maybe he was/still is mismanaged by people who are supposed to manage him. But I still prefer guys who really look and act like nice dudes - Heiki, anyone?

I've always said that James Allen is unfairly criticized by people on this board. OK the constant mentioning of hamilton being the reincarnation of Senna is annoying and not a grand prix has gone without him mentioning Schumacher in some way but I'd rather have a man with a bit of passion for the sport than someone who just calls the action. Murray Walker constantly made blunders in his commentary yet no one called for him to be killed. Allen probably should go back to pit lane reporting but I find him a bearable commentator

I dont think lewis pretends to be anything he is not. He is a hard but fair fair racer which cannot be said for all. He believes in his abilities, believes that he is the best and ok that can come over as arrogance I guess but he aint gonna get anywhere if he thinks the other guy is better than him!
* he doesnt criticise his team
*he doesnt pretend to be smarter than team strategists, he acted rashly last year and has since apologised he was only 21 under immense pressure and maybe made a wrong decision also he had to step out of the little boy role at sometime.
*he is a team player and has said he will suport Heikki whenever the situation arises
* I dont get the big deal about the autoiography, there were already
about 4 or 5 biographies about him published before he wrote his own.
simple answer- Dont but it! I didnt, I bought the Mark Hughes one
*He didnt use the F word over the radio-a misquote
*Dont attract a sick public???? come on! get on to the media not him! He drives cars. I hate the media attention, i supported Lewis long before the media knew who he was!! so they piss me off as well but that isnt Lewis' fault.

Heikki is a great guy, I'll agree with that. He's different to Lewis but that doesnt make Lewis some sort of bad guy

Walker made errors, yes, but he was always impartial, even when it came to speaking about his favourite drivers and fellow Britons. Allen, however, is completely blinkered. Personally, I was cursing at the television yesterday. Had Allen been in my front room, I'd have punched him.

Plus, Murray was funny and likable, Allen is annoying, stupid and contemptible. When Murray made mistakes, they were amusing vocal errors. Allen just talks s***, saying things which are flagrantly false and missing things which are obvious.

But Heikki is the perfect team player. Fast enough to give Hamilton a real push all the time and therefore quite capable of winning races, but just lacking that miracle ingredient X which defines a champion.

I'm wondering if he thinks anyone other than Lewis and Kimi (of the current field) have this 'miracle ingredient X'...

Heikki's results are only the way they are because he's had four rather unlucky incidents which have prevented him from winning a race and also being further up in the title battle. I'm quite sure that he'd have been fighting for a win back in Turkey and again here in Monaco had he not had those problems.

Don't know is anyone's made this point in this thread yet, but if James Allen's analysis was any good he would not have compared Hamilton's drive to Senna, but to Schumacher instead. It was much more of a Schumacher-style performance - driving fast at the right time to execute the pit strategy - but that didn't fit the narrative.

James Allen tends to ignore Nico Rosberg a lot when he's not in the points. At Fuji last year Rosberg qualified 6th but got a penalty for changing his engine and never got mentioned at all in the race by James Allen, infact he totally neglected to mention his retirement due to an electrical failure and it was only reported when Coulthard's girlfriend, I mean Louise Goodman caught up with him.
