Call it sour grapes, if you will; but, I voted "other" -- the Race Stewards definitively made the difference today!

Ridiculous how they took into consideration that it was so "chaotic" that Mercedes were forgiven for changing their mind.
I guess that "force majeure" covers this occurrence... great call, eh?

I'm sorry; but, I can't let this one go... this is the "force majeure" that Hamilton/Mercedes had to ""overcome""??

Basically, Hamilton gets called in for new tires...
He's in the lane to pit...
Hamilton tells race engineer that Kimi is pitting...
Gets told to stay out...
Cuts across the grass...
Then they tell him to come in anyway...
But, he's already on track, racing...
He's ahead of Bottas on newer tires...
Hamilton's tires are slowing him down...
Bottas tries to pass; but, is ordered to hold station...
Bottas gets an apology
Hamilton gets the win...

At the very least, the Stewards should have given him a time penalty...

With a 5 second-penalty, he'd have finished second (and kept a lead of 10 points in the standings)...
With a 10-second penalty, and he'd have 4th place (and a 4 point lead)...
Either way, he'd still be ahead of Vettel in the standings...

Maybe the Stewards should have penalized everyone except Smettle for making the track wet. Smettle ran out of talent because he felt the pressure of a fast approaching Hamilton ... sorry you don't like that, but that's what happened.

You honestly believe that electing to stay out last minute and going across the grass slowly to get back on track should "redefine" who wins a race?? No one else was involved, no danger to anyone other than perhaps the risk of Hamilton damaging his car on the curbs like what happened to him during quali.

As far as team orders, you mean like when Ferrari told Kimi to get out of the way for Smettle in the very same race?

Smettle only got a 5 sec penalty for causing a collision with Bottas ... that was a huge collision that compromised another driver ... and you think Hamilton should get a 10 sec penalty for cutting across the grass slowly with no other driver involved?

'Redefine'?

The penalty to Hamilton properly applied during the race would have provided for an exciting finish with four drivers pushing to the very end. If Hamilton was quick and talented enough to overcome the 5 or 10 seconds for his cutting the pitlane then he could win. They could settle it on the track fairly.

What 'redefined' the race was the amazingly improper use of a 'force majuere' clause to arbitrarily award the win. What was the unavoidable catastrophe that in effect awarded the race to Hamilton? There was none of course!

Let's remember that it was Vettel crashing out that caused this whole situation.

I simply don't believe that F1 management would create a situation where Mercedes get an unfair advantage deliberately, it would be good for Ferrari to win the drivers title, people are sick of one team winning year upon year. Sure, there are discrepancies in stewardship, but not to the point of benefitting one team over another, even if Hamilton was penalized with a 10 second time penalty, it would still be a big points haul for Mercedes and Hamilton with Vettel causing his own demise in Germany.
