1. Knowing the time saved by running though the pits under the virtual safety car, I would run through it every lap and jump positions. Obviously that would make a farce of the spirit of the VSC.

2. Obviously we need a new rule stating that a driver going into the pits under the VSC can lose positions in relation to other cars, but CANNOT GAIN A POSITION.

3. As a racer I see the value of the VSC. We should not abandon the idea. The farce of Melbourne should not be allowed to recur.

Merc just made a calculation error, they were well aware of the risk and thought it was covered if you believe their story. In any case just an amateur hour mistake by Merc. No need to change the rules imo.

So... when some drivers gain an advantage under SC or VSC,
it's all part of racing; but, when other drivers gain that same
advantage, it suddenly becomes an issue?

Changing the rules during the season is even more farcical
than teams making "honest" mistakes!

I think the bigger issue is the rules regarding engine components and gearboxes, because of the 3 power unit limitation, drivers do the bare minimum to stay ahead to conserve their engine and/or gearbox, which caused this situation, if Hamilton was allowed to go balls to the wall, Vettel would have been nowhere near his pit window. There has always been a time advantage to pitting under the safety car, VSC or otherwise, ultimately its the same for everyone, so there is no unfair advantage, it just worked out in Vettel/Ferrari's favor this time around.

moa - Hamilton is now saying* that Kimi was hard to pull a gap on. Looks like he was 'balls to the wall' and just couldn't shake Raikkonen. Hamilton is only as good as his merc qually 'party mode' it seems.

And now Ricciardo is getting the story out: " Hamilton isn’t ‘too good’, his car is" – Ricciardo

Ricciardo: "I think Lewis is very good. I don’t think he’s too good. I think he’s very good. But I think obviously the car and their package is too good, absolutely. It’s not to discredit Lewis, not at all." -

That's the whole point, OB, the engines are turned down for the race, if it was truly balls to the wall, he would be able to extract the maximum from the engine, but the need to preserve the power unit, means that the 'race' engine mode is significantly less powerful than the qualifying engine mode.

I've "lucked" into and out of wins in SCCA. When you win by luck it's just not as gratifying but you smile and balance it against the bad luck losses.

Do we really tune into F1 to watch a "Vegas Show".

Hamilton clearly was the fastest. The safety car's whole purpose is to "neutralize the field".

The rule needs revision.

With all due respect to your expertise and experience, you've taken that phrase out of context, because the Safety Car isn't used just because the FIA chooses to "neutralize the field"!
It's used if and where there is an accident or if there are extremely poor weather/track conditions, including debris that can cause problems for drivers.

The safety car is not always that safe, as usually the lapped cars are allowed to pass the safety car and can speed around the track to join the back of the snake behind the safety car, therefore, not being controlled by the safety car's pace, which, arguably, could cause another, possibly bigger accident, especially in poor weather conditions.

Hello everyone.
As a Hass fan I was doubly upset during the Australian GP. Firstly for the obvious reason , the wheel nut fiasco for Hass and subsequent loss of valuable points. And secondly by the VSC fiasco which was thus triggered. I completely agree with Action Jackson that the VSC should neutralise the field ( not ‘by FIA choice’ as was suggested by a previous poster, but to preserve order and prevent racing while an incident is dealt with. ) The VSC clearly gave advantage to and penalised drivers unfairly. This should be rectified to prevent a reoccurance....... as I hope the wheel gun is at Hass!!
Thanks.

Of course. I stand corrected.
I chalk it up to a computer with a mind of its own and lack of sheep preventing checking.
I see I need to be on my ties round here.

Then here are some :sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep: for ya to help ya out.
