Am Ende einigten sich die Ingenieure und die Vertreter des Weltverbands darauf, dass alle Autos mit einer weiterentwickelten Halo-Version ausgerüstet werden. Der sogenannte "Halo 2" besteht nicht mehr Stahl sondern aus Titan. Die Befestigung am hinteren Teil ist mit einem Gelenk beweglich gelagert. Schon im nächsten Monat will FIA die neue Version des Halo ersten Crashtests unterziehen.

Der Aero-Screen ist damit aber noch nicht ganz vom Tisch. Die Ingenieure wollen das Konzept weiterentwickeln. Es soll dann 2018 den Halo ersetzen. Möglicherweise soll es dann als vollverglaste Kanzel kommen. Fahrervertreter Alex Wurz erklärte gegenüber auto motor und sport schon zu Saisonbeginn: "Bei dieser Lösung wollen wir irgendwann einmal landen."

Weniger Unterstützer für Aero-Screen

Der optisch etwas ansprechendere Aeroscreen hatte bei der Red Bull-Konkurrenz nur wenige Unterstützer gefunden. Die Gegner befürchteten, dass Red Bull damit einen Wettbewerbsvorteil erlangen könnte. Die Auswirkungen auf Kühlung und Aerodynamik wären massiv gewesen, so die Technik-Experten. Jetzt haben alle noch ein Jahr Zeit, sich darauf einzustellen.

The Aero Screen is however, not yet completely off the table with this. The engineers want to develop the concept. It is to then replace the Halo in 2018. Possibly as a fully enclosed "glass" cockpit.

Opponents feared that Red Bull could gain a competitive advantage. The effects on cooling and aero dynamics would have been massive according to the technical experts.

It could be my eyes but that looks like a driverless car to me. If it is not then how is the driver supposed to get in?

There seem to be a number of "seams" which may be where the car opens...
