Anyone heard any other news regarding his trophies? from what I read the fear they might be lost.
Poor guy. Would the FIA be able to re-issue them???

McLaren have the originals that were given on the podium in woking. the drivers get duplicates made to take home.

Yeah but exactly, would he be able to get those duplicates re-made to him? he knows they are duplicates, but at least it makes for a nice cabinet deco :)

"the fire is believed to have been traced to an electrical fault in a cabinet displaying the trophies of the former McLaren driver."

Yeah right and Mika was just playing cards with the two women...

McLaren have all trophies the team ever won, but two, as far as I know. Brundle claims he switched for a second-place he achieved, and Prost threw the final trophy he won with the team into the crowd, much to Ron Dennis' rage. Personally, I'd be seriously pissed off if you had all but one (at that time) of the team's trophies!

I was thinking in the same vein...

But the drivers have to pay for their replicas!

Good article. I wasn't actually aware that so many had gone walkies, even since Dennis took over the team. Brundle fed me wrong information!

I'm sure the drivers can afford to pay for their replicas.

If I was a driver, I'd want the team to have the replica, if I'm totally honest. :/

I would agree with that from a selfish perspective, but, to be fair, Formula One is a team sport, so when you consider the work everybody from the cleaners and canteen staff to the engineers and manufactures and mechanics and drivers, it's only just that the team keeps the the trophies.

In my opinion, a fair deal would be that the team got all the constructors' trophies and the driver got all the drivers' trophies. But that may just be me.

Is there not only one constructors' cup presented to the winner? I agree that as a driver it would be nice to have the original trophies, but, like I say, if you take a step back and look at the situation from a less drivercentric position, the trophies were won as the result of a team performance, so the team as a whole deserves to keep them.
