Since my interest in F1 clicked into overdrive in 1996 ive noticed the backmarkers always had the greatest paintjobs(in my opinion) maybe its because they never got much coverage that made them more appealing, no matter what it is theyve never been boring like some frontrunners that are yet to change their primary colour. we will be going through several seasons and teams and a variety of different styles from dark to light, metalic to matte and subtle to stunning.

No10: Minardi M195B of 1996,
this cars livery may not appeal to most people and is highly overshadowed by its earlier 1995 paintjob, but it really strikes me with its dark blue metalic rounders with dayglow green accents. the blend of conservative blue and garrish green are balanced out by the main colour white which gives it an overall subtle(tuxedo) look

No9: Tyrrell 026 of 1998
what can i say, just brilliant. blacks silvers and white all worked together in retro like fashion, a giant leap compared to its blander attempts of the two previous seasons, its performance that year just shows you that they focused alot of time into the look of their car

No8: Forti FG03 OF 1996
c'mon you knew it was coming! probably the least known liveries of the late 90's, the Shannon forti raced just under a handfull of races before the sponsor failed to pay its worth due to lack of race and media time. the green white and red is a very crisp clean look(like a mintie wrapper) and looked very professional and individual of the italian outfit

No7: Ligier JS25 of 1985
in the words of the french, c'est magnifique! the tone of blue is perfect with not too much going on considering its abundance of sponsors, top marks for the candy logo.

No6: Prost AP01 of 1998
another french classic the AP01 marks the importance of all french sponsors and metalic blue pearl duco, the way the glimmers reflect over the bulbous muscular body structure make it look like a showcar than a true racecar.

No5: Jaguar R1 of 2000
five cars to go in this 10 car race, and what a car to go halftime in. this car truly is a stunner. extremely well thought out paint scheme and excellent incorporation of the jaguar over the engine cover in traditional british racing green metalic. gorgeous!

No4: Alfa Romeo 184t of 1984-85
since the teams entry in 1979 they have suffered from a somewhat identity dissorder either being mistaken for a ferrari, a mclaren or in this case? a benetton, another green livery from me but i love how this one works, it just looks so 80's and really doesnt look all that menacing yet should still be given your full attention

No3: Minardi PS01 of 2001:
income the black cars, and what a car, following the approach from the mid 90's it looks even more like a tuxedo now, the inspiration comes from paul stoddarts favourate aussie rules football team from collingwood, the magpies. and driven by future F1 dual champ Fernando Alonso who forced this slow bugger up to the 10th place at his home race in barcelona.
black is beautifull

No2: Arrows A19 of 1998:
this car came from leftfield when i watched the opening round in 98, from blue and white to mean black. i fell in love right away, carefull placement and colourcoding of sponsors yet left me high and dry the next season when it went hotpink(orange) the only reason it misses out on the number one spot is because i was hoping it would be a fixed livery like the lifespan of the JPS lotus, but no.

No1: Jordan 196 of 1996:
maybe a little unexpected? a little bland? jordan have always had the biggest fanbase for their liveries, but as far as well promoted liveries go, this one takes the cake. it actually looks like a B+H fagg packet. id say it actually gave jordan F1 an identity away from those busy technicolour yawnboats.
even if it didnt go fast it looked the business and the livery should have remained that way instead of introducing cheesy snakes and insects for the following years. in 1996 we had tobacco companies from all over, it made sense for benson and hedges to make their names known in the world of F1 if only for a few years later.

i hope you have all enjoyed delving into my warped mind of F1 where i like to keep the cold part of the pitlane warm and their stories heard

The 1996 Jordan was yellow for the first race at Melbourne - where Brundle barrell-rolled the car, and then ICI gave Eddie Jordan a special number which produced the gold. To be honest I thought the gold was a little lame, a bit tacky, the yellow was much better.
