Nico Rosberg took the 'Pole Position Trophy' in 2014 with 11 poles, Lewis Hamilton had 7 and Felipe Massa completed the Mercedes powered sweep with his pole at the A1 Ring.

Last season Lewis Hamilton was the pole winner in Aus with a time of 1:44.231 ahead of the busted Ricciardo at 1:44.548. 2015 is a whole new season though, so who will be on pole for this seasons Australian GP?

Unless something goes spectacularly wrong or there is some external factor such as unexpected weather or a disruption to the session it should be a Merc front row lockout. Going on past form I'm thinking Lewis will be on pole.

Even as a Ferrari fan, I'm not delusional enough to believe it will be anything other than a Mercedes one-two.
Pole? Can't decide, since it seemed that Rosberg was the one to beat on Saturdays.

If push came to shove, I'd probably go with him!

I think it'll be closer than that between the mercs but still have lewis down for pole.

The gap last season between the two was .364 s. But you might be right as last year qually was in the rain.

The folks who bet are putting their money on Hamilton slightly over Rosberg. And on a Ferrari being in the second row ahead of the Williams.

My only real logic in choosing Hamilton is that he has three previous poles at Melbourne, and his confidence will be at an all time high coming into the season. It's interesting that the bookies are discussing Ferrari as potential challengers; I would expect (and hope) that they have improved, but I really can't see them overhauling Williams unless somehow Williams have got their development all wrong. Going by testing I just can't see it. More realistic that Ferrari and Red Bull are close to equal as third fastest team. Either way we'll find out soon!
