This is an amazing pieces of footage!! It's Mike Hawthorn doing a preview lap of Lemans in 1956, the year after he won it, also th eye at after the terrible accident that caused Mercedes to withdraw from Motorsport.
Hawthorn gives a running commentary throughout the lap and it's filmed by a camera mounted on the car. The quality is excellent.
What amazed me was during this preview lap, in his Jaguar race car which was shifting, bikes, cars and pedestrians were all using the road as well!
Also amazing, no crash barriers, trees right next to the track, andhe said the cars get up 180mph
