This isn't so silly. One really has to ask, why would anyone in a brilliant position at Mercedes AMG, having just come off double World Championships, jump ship for a flailing ship like Ferrari? Jock Clear, Lewis' performance engineer is one such person opting to leave for browner pastures. I get that he's not the head mo-fo at Mercedes but to replace Fry at Ferrari and back to struggling ways when winning was feeling so good? I'm shaking my head ruefully. I'll continue to look at the positive...some well-deserving person will be promoted within ranks or be poached from another rival. The Mercedes AMG train will keep rolling.

Because in Ferrari style they have offered Jock money he cant refuse and a promotion way above his comfort zone. He wont be moving to be a race engineer, he will be a tech director and will probably get paid off a la Fry et al in a year or two

It is the way of F1 and any other high pressure business. When a team is at the top, their staff get poached for big money, the poacher pays the top of the market price and hopes for the best, and after that theres only one way the guys price can go. Luckily Merc anticipated all this and had an abundance of the best tech guys on board early at the time everyone was saying they had too many chefs and would implode

Merc have the bottom up top down infrastructure now to cull their top staff oor promote or attract others at lower prices simply because they are the best. Its the guys like Cowley and Costa that will be locked down on 24 hr basis

I shouldn't think they'd have too much trouble attracting aplicants should they decide to advertise the post externally.

Lewis doesnt really need one, maybe his brother could have a go, or as a last resort I am sure Niki would your arm off if you gave him such a position. There must be a guy with the qualifications, maybe him and lewis' brother, Niki would probably get a bit carried away and think he was driving

Dear Mr. Wolf.
I would like to be considered for the above post. I bring a unique set of skills to the job that may help you remain ahead of the field. I will say up front that I have little engineering experience, in fact I have none; but bear with me, my talents are many and may be just what you are looking for.

I will be completely in tune with Mr. Hamilton. I will know when he needs radio silence and when he needs data ( only the data allowed of course. I am FULLY conversent with the rules!) When data is required, my team of engineers will have it ready instantly! And if they do not I will smack bottom. ( an Englishism for kick arse)
I will manage my team of engineers to perfection. They will be rewarded handsomely for good work and as I say, bottom smacked for poor work. But there will be no poor work in my team.

I can smell out backstabbing and sculduggery before the perpetrator has even formulated his plan. If I'd been Lewis' race engineer at McLaren they would not be the mess that they are today!! Monaco and Spa will just be bad dreams of the past. That will NOT be happening on my watch!!

I will respect your desire for data sharing and will comply with all requests by you on this matter. However, I am very innovative and will leave no stone unturned to ensure my driver makes full use of his skills and strategies available to hm. Remember , if Honda produce a good engine you will be fightng Alonso and Button. And they have tricks a plenty up their sleeves.
So I end with a suggestion that you think outside the box regarding this appointment and consider me, engineers are ten a penny, I am different , I am unique. I will not let you down.
