I don't see how you can equate a cheap throwaway gibe to annoy some delusioned poster on an internet forum to a scourge such as racism. Talk about melodrama and political correctness in overdrive.

Derogatory comments based on a disliking of a group of individuals yet aimed at a general population aren't quite appropriate. Stereotyping can be offensive. I'm quite sure that saying all Muslims were terrorists or all black people were gangsters would cause great offense to a large proportion of those people. So there is little difference between what you said and those, except that Spanish people are not considered to be a different race than your own.

Holier-than-thou, politically correct tripe.

No, that's not how it is.

It's the feelings of someone who has to put up with poo like that on a day-to-day basis.

If you can't take a remark like that, then I'm afraid you're the one with the problem.

The guilt trip doesn't work on me, by the way. I'm from Northern Ireland, so am well aware of how prejudice etc. operates - and real, brutal prejudice at that.

Yes, and the problem is the fact that I'm constantly bombarded with offensive comments because of how I wish to live my life. I'm not trying anything with guilt trips. What I am doing is pointing out that, whether or not your comments are intended to offend someone, they can and will. It's very upsetting if you are just thrown in with a bunch of people, such as racists or thugs, because you have something in common with them that is nothing to do with the reason you made the comment in the first place. You know that you're a decent person who does nothing wrong whatsoever, but due to some un-caring person's lack of respect for how others feel you end up being placed with those who are bad people. It's not nice at all.

Well, I take issue with people telling me how I wish to live my live, who can't take a harmless joke, and with paranoid people getting offended on behalf of others who, it has to be said, aren't really worried.

The time for giving NP the benefit of the doubt is passing, but it's not gone yet. At the halfway mark if he's still not up to snuff, then it's time to look elsewhere.

I'm not offended on behalf of them, but simply annoyed that so many people are like this. The assumption that something like that is harmless is what leads to more people doing it and more people being offended. It's not me being paranoid - I have to deal with people throwing that kind of thing at me and those around me in an insulting manner practically every day, and then those who say things like that in a manner that's just supposed to be a joke but not considering how it might affect those people who it might concern. It's quite unfair on others not to consider what effect your words may have on them. Sure, there might not be someone here who is offended by what you say, but had you said it in front of a group of thirty or so Spanish people, I could guarantee that a large amount of them would take offence to it.

Without consideration for the effects of your words, you can end up saying something that will, at some point, really upset someone. Should they have to deal with that?

I'll apologise for taking this up with you in particular, but at the moment it is the kind of thing that I am really frustrated by and it honestly really gets to me when I see people doing it. I live in a place where there are a lot of unpleasant people so it's quite common wherever I seem to go.

wheres your reply to what i said about Lewis?? you cannot admit he has talent and that he did good in his rookie year, which a blind man would beable to see that he did!!! that makes you the loser in all this just remember that

You will get no reply from me on what you say about Lewis because:

1. This is not a Lewis topic and i'm sure everyone is tired of the Mclaren flock's bottom kissing and villain making. Who said Lewis has no talent? He's got tons of Broadway potential. Nah seriously, this thread wasn't even about him... so i won't bother.

2. I'm not spanish.

3. Had this conversation taken place in person; about halfway through your ethnic wisdom lecture, you would have definitely been looking for a plastic bag to put your teeth in.

4. If I have to answer to you to win an argument... then i really really don't mind losing. But this isn't your dinner table, and this is not your sister you're discussing with... so get your family issues sorted before you come out to the real world.

Can we stop the Lewis/Alonso/racism/whatever thing and concentrate on the topic, Nelson Piquet.

Let's compare the other rookies up to this point:

Bourdais: occasionally outqualified, and outpointed Vettel, the next 'Wunderkid'

Nakajima: scored 5 points, has struggled in qualifying

Piquet: nowhere near Alonso, one Q3 appearance, no points, spends more time off than on the track.

This may sound a little harsh on Piquet but he has been quite bad this year. In Spain Alonso went 2nd on the grid, Piquet got into Q3 but was only 10th on the grid, then went off a few times in the race. This epitomises him in the Renault this year.

I bet Renault (not Fernando) are gutted that they got rid of Fisichella. Maybe the perfect choice would have been to try and get de la Rosa.

Now Davidson is a free agent they'd be lying if the thought of having him hadn't crossed their mind. He wouldn't be destroyed by Fernando. he wouldn't beat him over a season but he would do so in certain races. I bet he was gutted he's not in Turkey this year, as he was immense there last year.

Why does he have to admit that LH is talented? We all have our own opinions. If he thinks that LH isn't talented that shouldn't give anyone an excuse to attack him! :x I wonder who's the fool
