It's pretty sad when Rosberg, as a real contender, shows the sportsmanship in insisting to his team that he finish the race, instead of quitting and is still accused of doing so based on the assumption that he was still harbouring some far-fetched hope that he could still win.

I don't think we need to argue over Rosberg's motives. He wanted to continue and Mercedes allowed him to and I think that was the right decision all round. He said he was keeping going all race in the hope( possibility) that Lewis' car would fail, but by that point in the race it was too late, he just wanted to finish his last race.
And his conduct after the race went a long long way to restoring fans, particularly Hamilton fans, respect for Rosberg. It did mine anyway. And from the comments on Mercedes facebook page, a lot of others as well.

 The only reason Nico kept going at the end was because he didnt want to give up till the end, which is exactly what he said after, therefore he carried on in the hope all the cars ahead fell of the track. Thats what every sportsman does if they dont give up while there is even a slim chance

You maybe be getting confused with why continuing earned him a lot of respect from real F1 fans - because he was just about to be lapped when Merc gave him the choice of saving face by retiring, and like a real man he said he would rather carry on for the slimmest of chances rather than give up to save face

I bet you didnt even know that Lewis lapped him

I said the same thing in the chat, just after the race ended!
I was actually hoping for a battle between Hamilton and Rosberg

You mean you were hoping for Rosberg to win and Lewis to break down because you're such a Rosberg fan. I hope next year you don't have to spend so much time in the Lewis V Nico thread and you can spend some time in the Kimi V Vettel thread.

I felt cheated by the flaccid Alonso v Kimi "battle" all year long, not just for one race.

You must realize that the only interest in F1 this season, and a marginal one at that for most fans, was the 'battle' between the two Merc drivers and that the Abu Dhabi race was the final race of the season and would determine the champion.

So hoping that there would be a battle between the only two who had a chance is what most people were tuning in to see, not irrelevant teammate battles from other teams.

And who was saying they hoped that Hamilton's car would break down?? I think you are way off base.

Then, IMHO, most fans are idiots. If they are only interested in the WDC winner, and none of the other battles down the table throughout the whole season, then they are very short sited.

Yes one would think that, but we have been told many times by overboost and sagi that the battle between the Merc drivers was of no interest and boring and predictable because merc were so far ahead - so either the final battle was of no interest therefore the dnf was irrelevant anyway, or the battle was of interest

hard to eat a cake you already fed to the dog OB

It was the title deciding race and the only interest was who would be the champion at the end of the day. The race was even promoted that way. The other teammate battles were basically decided if you haven't been paying attention and the Bottas/Vettel/Alonso battle for fourth would hardly rate tuning in for for many.

Saying that most F1 fans are 'idiots' is ridiculous!

You do know what 'marginal' means, I would hope you do.

And yes you have described the season very well, "boring and predictable because merc were so far ahead". Thanks.

Im implying your opinion of most 'fans' is idiotic. Any true F1 fan, despite the fact the the Merc battle being the headline, would still be interested in the other battles going on.

There was no interest to you on the battle between Alonso / Vettel / Bottas (only 3 points between them, going into the race)?

He said the Battle for 4 between Vettel and Alonso. OB just can't seem to pick a winner.

I think we just need to make allowances for those representating an interesting new breed of F1 fan - they dont appear to outwardly support any team or driver (although it slips thru once in a while when they get excited) and they dont appear to have any interest in watching the races, but are expertz in how a certain LH and anything associated with him are ruining the fun for them and undefined 'others'

Full of brimstone and fire, armed with mercurial and dynamic shape shifting opinion and stats, they never ever can be wrong about anything, even when contradicting themselves because they will deny whatever has passed that they need to and will change focus in every single post along the lines of 'x may be good factually, but overall y is bad, therefore x is bad anyway' etc etc

Its amusing - so the races are boring, no one cares about Merc drivers racing each other and providing entertainment, 'we' dont, however at the last race it was boring because the Merc drivers didnt race and provide entertainment - and this is the only race I was interested in becaome of the outcome of the tittle that was boring and was predicatble from the first race

quality donkey konging

You are right. I missed that. Apologies.

But I clearly see OB is just like 'most fans'.

The implication from Roth that Vettel's season was not as bad as it looked because after all he more than made up for in in the second part of the season made me chuckle as well.

Oh and the fact that OB would extol the virtues of Rosberg to no end, specifically pointing to his momentum and his qualifying prowess pointing to his amazing ability as a driver Sochi being a perfect example, and yesterday for some reason he says...

He was able to beat Rosberg who is a an OK driver. Not too much else to add really as this result was expected since before Aus

How does someone have such an opposing view on their own opinion?

It's those little moments of mental weakness I guess, where one forgets the crap they said yesterday simply to try and prove a point today? I've never understood why people do that, but then again I've never had a problem spotting winners.
