What's the big deal? Ferrari are favourite to win at Turkey. He wasn't talking about the championship, or saying that they will sit and settle for 2nd best. Sure, Haug should be lifting the team's spirit... but he's not dealing with children. They should know their milestone for Turkey is Ferrari and to not be beaten by BMW.

Mclaren has shown good pace, but somehow they haven't able to consistently exploit the car. BMW have shown pace to better Mclaren and challenge Ferrari by good strategy and by making very few mistakes.

Sounds like Haug may be covering his back a bit.

For me, the telling race will be Monaco - McLaren were dominant there last year, if they can't compete this year then it does seem like the Ferrari will be better on more or less every track. Intrestingly enough, McLaren weren't as bad as i thought they'd be in the race in Spain; and remember, this is a track where Ferrari's supposed aero advantage would be at it's highest.

i'd agree with that..(I must stop agreeing with you :D )

Mclaren's 08 car has shown better pace on the tracks that were supposed to be Ferrari's tracks in 07, maybe not faster than Ferrari, but at least closer.
The reason Mclaren was not left behind in Barcelona was because of the safety cars, so I think Ferrari has the edge this year on twisty circuits (compared to last year). In Barcelona both Mclaren and Toyota 's cars seemed very nervous and difficult to handle while Ferrari were really strong.

So to me, the decisive tracks for Mclaren are Turkey and Canada (unless they have major developments still underway). If they cannot match Ferrari in these Med/Lo downforce tracks (also because BMW and Toyota look relatively strong in these), then I guess the championship is out of their hands and Mclaren will be left battling BMW, Toyota and perhaps Renault. Mistakes and weird stuff aside.....

How can you talk about BMW and Toyota in the same sentence?

Crazy season ain't it? But here's this:
How many times has a Toyota finished / Q'd ahead a Mclaren?
How many times has a BMW finished / Q'd ahead a Mclaren?
How many times has a Renault finished / Q'd ahead a Mclaren?

Unless Mclaren close the gap to the front and sort their consistency, they will be left battling BMW, Toyota and possibly Renault.

I wouldn't drop Williams or Red Bull out of the equation this early in the season, I still think Williams are pretty much leading the pack behind the top 3 despite the team admitting to making some pretty big cock-ups in the past few races. McLaren could end up dropping behind them too.

I think Monaco could be a bit more challenging for McLaren this year. The MP4-23 has a longer wheelbase compared to the MP4-22, has been struggling for traction, and doesn't seem to be liking the twisty corners as much. The F2008 has a shorter wheelbase compared to the F2007, has better traction, and handles better around the slow speed corners. Those are the three main things you need to have around the streets of Monte Carlo.

I remember during McLaren's very lean year recently, where Honda was beating them, they were coming out and blaming Mercedes for the engine and Mercedes were blaming the chassis. Then came Monaco... No more complaints from Mercedes...

I still hate McLaren but I take my hat off when it's due...

To be honest, neither party was free of guilt. Mercedes' engines were a disaster and McLaren's chassis were equally grim. McLaren at least had excuses in that Raikkonen was allergic to testing, the team were relocating to the Technology Centre and in 2006 the FIA did a U-turn on tyre regulations. As I said a week or so ago, when the fallout from the spy scandal dissipates in a season or two's time, it will time for McLaren-Mercedes to produce the goods and be chasing titles year in, year out.
