I am a rally fan freak. I follow championships ranging from the WRC, ERC, IRC, Italian championship, Swedish championship, Australian championship, European rallycross just to name a few. This round is a round of the Mitropa Cup Championship. Smaller and not as pro as the championships I just meantioned but still nice, especially when there is a rally in your own home town. ;-)

It is this week.

Rally in Melbourne?

Sure take a look.

2008 Australian Rally Championship Calendar *

Rd 1. QUIT Forest Rally 5 – 6 April
Rd 2. Rally of Canberra 10 – 11 May*
Rd 3. coates Rally Queensland 21 – 22 June
Rd 4. Toyota Rally SA 26 – 27 July
Rd 5. Great Lakes Rally 20 – 21 September
Rd 6. NGK Rally of Melbourne 18 – 19 October

The last round is in Melbourne. Round four is in South Australia for you. Website for the Australian Rally Championship is http://www.rally.com.au/ The ARC is more professional than the Mitropa Cup (Which has 2 Slovenian rallies and also 2 Italian ones and a few in countries near those such as Austria and Germany). The ARC can easily rank with bigger European rally championships such as the Italian one (CIR), the British one, Scottish one, Finnish just to name a few. The ARC is a far more superior championship than smaller European championships such as the Croatian and Slovenian Championships, however one must note that some individual rallies in these smaller tournaments are also part of bigger championships such as the ERC. The ERC has a rally in Croatia (Which is also part of the Croatian Championship). This rally would rank higher and more important than the ARC rallies as the teams/drivers in this are very much the best in the world. Refarding Australian talent? Atkinson who drives for Subaru in the WRC and is doing ok against the likes of Loeb and Hirnoven is Australian. A fine driver he is and perhaps future World Champion?

By the way Bud I consider a home town rally a rally/race from or in the country of my birth (Which is Ljubljana) not where I currently reside, thus the reason why I never considered any Italian rallies as home town rallies nor the Melbourne one in the ARC which is in the city where I currently reside. :)
