It seems unbelievable that it was six years ago yesterday that Lewis was WDC winner. which after what had happened the year before, looked in doubt until the last corner...
He has been robbed so many times, had so much crap written about him....but he has just got on with doing what he does best.
It will be a travesty if he doesn't win this year.

I like Nico but his four wins..
Australia...LH on pole but DNF... problem was apparent from the start.
Monaco...cheating in Q3 got pole where overtaking is minimal.... at best.
Germany...
Belgium slashed Lewis' tyres causing him to DNF

I think it's just reached a tipping point hasn't it? I mean it's difficult for pundits to badmouth the winningest British F1 driver in history without losing a bit of credibility. So everyone want a piece of the action now, otherwise getting an interview with the champ might be difficult to get on the schedule.

Already looking forward to the Top Gear episode.

I really hope Lewis continues to cold shoulder Brundle unless he absolutely cant avoid it.

Ever since Brundle somehow got the imopression he was in the driving seat to replace Anthony Hamilton as Lewis' manager, expecting that Lewis would see the light and take his place in the scheme of things, to which Lewis I believe probably said diplomatically ' ' and since then brundle has really showed Lewis what happens when you dont fall in line with the luvies like Button - NO STEAK DINNERS LEWIS!!!!!

And no benefit of doubt when Brundles commentating

What has the general reaction in Britain been to Hamilton being the winningest driver? In myopic Australia it hasn't been a big thing obviously, but even during the race it didn't seem like they were making a big deal about it. Obviously with the WDC at stake there are priorities, and this isn't one of them, but I wasn't sure if that was due to the intensity of the title race, or that it's a credit to Hamilton that he's not a stats hunter so play it down, or whether I'm just missing the hoopla.

It was on the news on the Radio this morning but just in the general sports section.

In my opinion it was always going to happen sooner or later, so not that big a deal.

In the grand scheme of things, not that big of a deal. In the history books however his name will be at the top of that list so future generations will get to see his name first. Eventually that has an impact on how his career will be interpreted. There's just not as much wiggle room to deviate from the talking points in the history books.

But like someone else said he's got worse. I used to like his grid walk but now I end up shouting at his comments, and he misses things.

Brundle made a few illjudged quotes in the media to the effect that he was firmly in the seat for the role
Lewis firmly denied this and went without a new manager for a while, leaving the role to McLaren, probably as he thought he would be there his whole career
At this time Brundles attitude changed towards Lewis
And Lewis began to completely refuse to appear on Martins gridwalks
And Brundle started to promote the impression of Lewis as arrogant, and misguided and hard to get on with and hated by his crew
If anything it was Button catching the flip side of this
Brundle was fair before this distinct shift
Murray Walker was known to be 'important to get onside of' as Damon Hill will testify, however he was the fabric of F1 and despite his senility in older age had earned this respect and position of 'media king maker' Brundle is just a cheap gangster and Murray wannabe IMHO

Good to see him getting some recognition then. I remember when Mansell was climbing up that list Stewart was the man to beat but I wasn't really aware of how good he was. Actually I still can't get a full handle on Stewart, if his success was Vettelesque or something a bit more special.

I wonder if people coming into F1, as viewers, are aware of Mansell's greatness or Moss, Clark, Surtees or Hill with history more readily available. Moss for some reason was mentioned and regarded the hero a lot more than Clark (the officionado's favourite) maybe because like Mansell for so long he was the nearly man, and we love ourselves a nearly man. Plus he was around to keep reminding everyone of how good he was. Britain is lucky to have a rich history of great drivers, and with Hamilton this is continuing. It's a good time to dig up the history, take stock of the sport and just appreciate it for what it is.

Good read over at Pitpass. Some details about the decision to not renew the XIX contract, but I found the snippet below most interesting.

Pitpass "Nigel has been very supportive this year," he added. "It's good to have support. I see a lot of negative stories and negative things said from legendary ex-drivers and I always think to myself, ‘why would you not want to be supporting me? We're from the same place'. So it's great to have that support from Nigel, who has achieved a huge amount, who has said I was there, I did it, owned the T-shirt.

"One day, when I'm gone and I come back to watch, I want to be supportive. I want to be seeing the next Brit come through and to be encouraging rather than kicking them in the guts. I want to be inspiring young drivers rather than talking crap."

Apart from Jackie Stewart who genrally likes to let everyone know how smart he really is by having a contrarian opinion on anything that moves, the gold medal would have to go to the genius British ex driver who was too dumb to change his tune when the others began their retreats from the 'at best lazy assumptions, and at worst borderline rascism'

Watson: Rosberg to gain from new radio rules
Ex-Formula 1 driver John Watson says he is expecting championship leader Nico Rosberg to gain an advantage over Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton as a result of the radio traffic clampdown.

From this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, information about car or driver performance will be banned from pit-to-car radio messages and pit boards, with further restrictions to come at the following Japanese round.

"In my view, the rule change will undoubtedly have a bearing on the outcome of the World Championship."

Watson reckons Rosberg, who currently leads Hamilton by 22 points in the standings, Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso plus Red Bull pairing Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo will prove to be the best at adapting.

"If you take away a lot of the, what you might call, 'driver assists' it's going to come down to those with the spare capacity. My assumption is [that will be] someone like Rosberg, Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and possibly Ricciardo."

Expanding on the intra-team battle at Mercedes, five-time race winner Watson said: "In my thought, Rosberg is intellectually superior to Lewis. I would imagine that because of that he's going to gain an advantage.

"Lewis is a racer. He wears his heart on his sleeve. But I think he may suffer if there's an issue to be handled."

Since that exemplary example of has-been bitterness -
Lewis has scored 46 points more than Rosberg,
Lewis has scored 52 more than Ricc, 56 more than Seb
Ricc has scored 4 points more than Seb
Alonso has scored 72 points less than Lewis
Bottas has outscored Alonso

And during that period, Nico has had problems managing his ERS, has shown an inability to make the changes to take care of an issue, has mismanaged his tyres completely twice, has had to resort to Lewis' setup at least once.
Lewis in that time has over-ridden his teams instructions successfully twice, has made on the fly adjustments during the race to achieve performance Nico was unable to get as a result of the changes not passed over the radio.

All in all a comprehensive metaphoric intellect arse flogging, almost like a poster on the internet who finds 100 factual dismissals for each claim he makes
