I think the cruise and collect is just a phrase for getting the job done without moving heaven and earth. that's how I see it anyway. Like I mentioned with hulkenberg. Dude doesn't do anything flashy, just drives it and gets the job done, whereas perez was busting some @$$ to make up lost time after his wing got taken off.
Yeah that makes sense generally - though there is a specific application in F1 applied to the drivers that hold back and collect from those going for it who go off ahead. Like the hare vs the tortoise, risk taking vs cat footing
