Whatever happened in the past the reason the British version is different from other versions is that at least in some fashion after a while everyone was stronger working together and embracing all the different varieties. Unlike some others who never integrated and embraced and stuck to some primitive notions of superiority or some useless entitlement reverse darwinism.
No matter how the past made it happen, the better societies now are those that have a variety and 'fair' multicultural basis able to draw upon the different strengths from all the different peoples in the union. I think the result of this vote has confirmed this
