Bit of a boring qualifying. Pitt about Kimi he finally seems on form.

Nico ' s lock up at turn 14 cost him pole. But could the front row of the grid be any closer. In fact the pack is really close this race.

Not at all, Lewis had a lockup too.

and Lewis' lock up at turn one cost him a bigger advantage on pole

Hamilton lost 2 tenths in turn 1 lockup where as Rosberg lost 1 tenth at turn 14 to turn 15

A mistake by Hamilton but he managed to hold onto pole. Very close. Rosberg is probably kicking himself for changing his brakes.

They are in a big battle though with the Red Bulls. I don't know if Hamilton or Rosberg are going to be able to race with Ricciardo who is showing that he is the most gifted driver on the track this season.

With their massive car advantage seemingly dulled this weekend it could all come down to driver skill set amongst top two teams. If this is the case look for another Ricciardo victory.

They both changed brakes didn't they, I thought I heard that they did it before qualifying because of high wear

They both had lockups that cost. Its fair to assume both cost the same amount of time, so the driver that came first was the better driver

unless you mean that Nico has such bad racecraft that a lockup must cost him more than it does Lewis who handles them better, in that case he should leave the mistakes to Lewis becasue he is not good enough to avoid them costing him pole, meaning the better man is on pole

As posted above Lewis lost 2 tenths because of the lock up and Rosberg lost 1 tenth

It'll be a very interesting race. Nobody looks overly confident, all that squiggling can't be doing the tyres any good, and new rain will have made it greener since quali.

It's tough across the board on brakes, tyres, driver - a real attritional one. One for the tyre managers. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the top runners didn't make
it to the end or atleast have serious issues.

If not though, Ricc to split the Mercs, Alonso to move up too. Vettel looks to be beat again. Great quali by Mag again but that's his strong point. Excellent place to work on his racecraft.

Roth I agree with you that the Mercs could be split today, and the man to do it is Dan the man  and Alonso might get in there if the Ferrari holds up on race pace. I do feel sorry for Kimi. I think he had the edge yesterday, but in the race I'd choose Alonso.

Mags is on a mission to prove he has more potential than the 15mill lame duck. I think he is doing that despite falling foul of the tendency for the stewards to 'biasirise' aggressive young chargers. All he needs is a serious tan and an afro to be able to make the ali G joke. However Mclaren are not winning jack this season so i am sure Ron appreciates Mags potential and sheer gonads more than the insignificant cruise and collect mid grid 'pointifified harvestation' of the 15 mill overhead

Which Merc where though, RC? There's too many variables in this race to be confident of anything. A poor start, badly timed SC could ruin a race, rubber that just doesn't run well for a stint, poor pitstop (and there will probably be three of them). I'd put it in Hamilton's favour if only because I couldn't imagine him being jammed up against the back of DR (or anyone) for a stretch, but I could with Rosberg.

Kimi, yeah, he finally gets a car he feels confident in and it goes tits up. He will ruffle a few feathers in the race though. If he gets close to Alonso Ferrari will finally have a situation on their hands which they'd probably planned for when he signed but hasn't had to be put into action.

Really though, it's all in the lap of the gods. Which is exciting but I can see a lot of hair-pulling moments.

It reminds me a bit of 2011 when Lewis got penalty after penalty for mostly just being there or racing incidents leaving Button ahead on points but ..........

I'm pretty sure Ron can read the 'but.........'

Again Mags is in q3 and Button out. Did anyone see the shot of Ron's face after that? It spoke volumes. I'm pleased that despite the incidents Mag has been involved in,the team fully support his style, because he has the natural talent and potential to be really good. He's only a rookie.

Oh I'm not counting chickens, not after the season Lewis has had so far. All being equal( no bad luck , bad stewarding or car problems) then I'd put Lewis ahead. But like you say, there are a lot of variables. If anyone gets the jump on Rosberg at the beginning, he'll be stuck and panicking. Lewis has already had to fight through the pack several times this season. So in the mix with others definitely Lewis.

Yup, bringing some money from jack and jones (skandinavian retailer) and getting paid a 30th of his teammate yet has out qualified him - but more important than bringing points to beat JORDAN, he creates a buzz that big Ron can sell to potential backers.
This year is a wash for Ron, IMO, Honda arrive and could spend the type of money to make Merc look like Ferrari,

@Jabs I doubt Ron is too bothered about this year which is obviously still a hangover from the insidious ex TP he dispatched like grass growing the wrong way in the plot outside the MTC

I would be worried if I was Ron about the points that Mag is losing because of penalties. Especially as the fight with Force India is so tight.

If McLaren can go without a title sponsor for the year, I don't think they're worried about any handful of points Mags has been docked.

My idea of a perfect race. Start then both Mercedes run into each other again, both out, haha.

May be the only chance Ferrari have of moving up the grid so I can see how this would appeal to some Tifosi.

I've been out to get some beverages with which to enjoy this evenings race. For me it will be red wine. I also got a selection of beers for others to enjoy. I'm intrigued about this one
