Le Castellet, 15 September –Ferrari did the double in the penultimate round of the European Le Mans Series, held at the French Paul Ricard circuit. Ferraris won both the LMGTE and GTC classes.
In LMGTE, there was an amazing one-two-three finish. The winner was the AF Corse 458 Italia GT3 crewed by British driver Duncan Cameron, Ireland’s Matt Griffin and Italy’s Michele Rugolo. They finished 10 seconds aheadof the AT Racing car crewed by Bielorussia’s Aleksander Talkanitsa senior, the German Pierre Kaffer and Italy’s Mirko Venturi and almost 40 ahead of the JMW Motorsport car of British drivers Daniel McKenzie, George Richardson and James Walker.

After this race, with only the Estoril round to go on 19 October, Cameron and Griffin have a hypothetical hold on the title as they have six point in hand over team-mate Rugolo, who did not take part in the Imola race and, above all, with 21 points in hand over the SMP Racing trio of Scuderia Ferrari test driver, Andrea Bertolini and the Russians Sergey Zlobin and Viktor Shaitar. It’s the same situation for the teams with AF Corse leading SMP Racing by 21 points.

Ferrari was also victorious in GTC, where the winners were Monaco’s Olivier Beretta, an official driver for the Maranello marque and the Russians David Markozov and Anton Ladygin. The SMP Racing car crossed the line around 15 seconds ahead of the other 458 Italia GT3 entered by Formula Racing and driven by the Danes Johnny Laursen, Mikkel Mac and Jan Magnussen. In this class, the drivers’ and team’s classification is almost decided with the SMP Racing crew having the lions share.

Overall race winner was the Newblood by Morand Racing Morgan crewed by Austrian former F1 driver Christian Klien, Switzerland’s Gary Hirsch and France’s Pierre Ragues. Leading the championship are Frenchmen Nelson Panciatici and Paul-Loup Chatin and Englishman Oliver Webb in the Signatec Alpine.
